    ELD's have been required on trucks in the EU for over 30 years. They didn't stop trucking. It is just different. One major difference is there are practically no owner-operators left, regulations like ELD's put them out of business. Why do you think our industry is being flooded with euro drivers? Uncontrolled legal and illegal immigration will provide plenty of drivers willing to work for lower wages caused by the unintended consequences of ELD's. Get used to it. Oh by the way, it has nothing to do with safety silly.

    All the ELDs do is try to force people to follow the law. If you don't like the law, change the law. If you don't like the pay you make working 70 hours a weeks, change the pay rate. If you don't like the 11/14 limit change the law. See you actually have to do something to change something you don't like or want or believe in.

    My close friend works in EU and they cheat like hell too. It is a bit different ELD from ours and you dont need to pay monthly!!!ELD transition will earn government and CO billions and billions.
    You can sleep well not worrying illegal immigrants taking our jobs. From 2015 you cannot even renew your CDL without being a citizen or resident. No more tourist visa and illegal drivers.

    Yes, and Yes. The Commerce Clause of the Constitution gives government the authority to regulate all interstate trade and movement of products between states. And the Constitution gives government the authority to

    Article I, Section 8, Clause 3:

    [The Congress shall have Power] To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;

    Article I, Section 8, Clause 7:

    The Congress shall have Power To...establish Post Offices and post Roads....

    So, the government has been granted authority by the Constitution, since 1787, to regulate interstate commerce and regulate roads. Post roads are all roads that postal mail would use. That includes the gravel road in front of my rural farm property, as the mailman has to deliver on that road to my house.

    Now, how far they can regulate these things, is up to your hired help in D.C, but the authority to do so is quite clear.

    Not disputing your claim, but one. Not having to pay monthly. Someone is paying and it is, in the end, everyone in the EU. Either government is providing the units and service, and it is coming out of folk's taxes, or the business itself the driver is with is paying for it. In the end, the average consumer is paying for it, including the driver when they walk into a store an buy something. There is no such thing as "free".

    Peter Griffin is wide of the mark on his other statement. There are currently 12 states issuing drivers licenses to undocumented citizens, making no distiction between the various classes of dl's.
    California, Wisconsin, Virginia among them. You may or may not be able to pass an FBI backround check to get a hazmat endorsement, but there are plenty of jobs that don't require them. I know of one prominent citizen that managed to get past FBI scrutiny.
