Swift and Hunt use those. The problem with that type is that the center of the trailer for loading is closer to the step. That makes pulling longer heavy loads more challenging. Loads like 40 ft containers will put you over on the spread.

Yeah seen those also. They better be dedicated insulation accounts. Were they a tandem spread? Maybe they can move the tandems like a door slammer

True, but at least the rear axle can take up to 40k lbs. With my axles joint (CA and CT legal) I can take up to 34k lbs on the rear axle which makes the distribution of weight even more difficult.

The trailer that I am referring to has the fixed spread and the 10ft tail swing. The center for loading is so close to the step that you will not be able to keep the axle weights under the legal limit when pulling the longer heavier loads. The loads will be butted up against the step and still heavy on the spread.

Cluck had a trailer like that but recently sold it. He said it was tough to load it correctly.

Light loads will work fine. Coils will work fine. But, if you notice the front axle of the spread is almost dead center of the lower deck. If you have to load the full lower deck, you're going to have a huge chunk of the weight BEHIND the spread. You want to keep your weight between the drives and the trailer axles, not behind the trailer axles.

It's actually 43 ft from KP to center of rearmost axle on the ground. You have some route restrictions, but it's generally not an issue.

How long before someone builds a trailer with two independent movable axles.
