The company for which I work is one of those that offers no specific sick time, vacation pay, or personal leave days. Our benefits include "paid time off" to all permanent employees based on the number of years employed. I was on the benefits committee that made the change from the traditional allocations of days off, and I kinda like it the way it is. :yes2557:

Well I know somebody posted "government needs to stay out of private business" but I don't see them posting here...

This is what they need to stay out of because it should not be mandatory to provide a benefit like this... many small companies simply could not afford such a thing...

Amazes me how dumb our government really is.. They keep expecting American companies to pay for this pay for that and then compete with foreign companies that don't have to pay for anything as such. And on top of that our government gives foreign companies huge tax breaks that American companies don't get and on top of that they give foreign companies grants that American companies can't get... bottom line our government gives foreign companies much more incentive to operate here in America and makes it cost less for them to do so compared to an American owned and operated company....

    Kay I tell you what...
    Lets do it this way....
All foreign companies must obied by the same laws and regulations American companies do if they want to operate or sell good in America... And receive no extra incentives (grants tax breaks ext..)
All must be equal when operating and or selling goods in America...
(that means they would need to obied by the same rules in their foreign countries if they wanted to sell goods in America... if they don't then they can't sell goods here in America..)

I could go for such a law then......

I guess the government thinks they are making things 'fair' for everyone. Guess what kids, life isn't fair, and never has been. The government needs to stop regulating everything to death.

Ohio Governor Says No To Unions

It seems Ohio's economy is bad enough that even Democrats have to draw the line. The Obama supporting union SEIU has been pushing a ballot initiative which would require every business with 25 or more employees to offer seven sick days to full-time employees. Realizing that the last thing a struggling economy needs is more mandates, and the last thing he needs is to be blamed for more job losses, Governor Strickland has been trying to work out some compromise that might lesson the blow to business.

Gov. Ted Strickland and Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher said they will not back the sick days mandate that has been pushed to the November ballot by one of their major union supporters, the SEIU.
“We cannot support the paid sick-day ballot initiative,” they said in a joint statement. “While we would hope that all Ohio businesses would make paid sick days available to their employees whenever possible, we believe that this initiative is unworkable, unwieldy and would be detrimental to Ohio's economy, and we will be opposing it and asking Ohioans to oppose it as a result.”

This is exactly my point..... Small companies just can not compete with large and foreign companies, and they expect them to ad sick days now? Does not seem like the right thing to do unless the competition (foreign companies) has to follow the same rules...

The company doesn't offer paid sick days? Try another company or stay healthy. :)

The only time I ever used sick days was when one of my kids was sick, and then hubby and I alternated. The only other time I ever used them was to play hooky! I very rarely get sick anyway.
