Huge mods took place, although to the untrained eye, everything should look stock.
If you knew what to look for, you would have noticed several components have been changed for different values. No such thing as twisting screws to make a crappy radio into a solid performer. Sloppy tolerances mean no two radios get the same value components either. Each radio is a work of art when done.

    It doesn't matter.

You can use a cavity bandpass filter the size a water heater that cuts the adjacent channels 100 dB in front the receiver, and you still wouldn't be able to copy a signal that's 20 dB below the noise, regardless of how much gain you add.

your mixing apple's and oranges go to a wal-mart buy a $20 pair of new sneakers go ahead put some doctor scholls in them walk in them for a month or two even. they will tear your feet up. where as if you spent $60 on a pair of new balance or skeechers your feet would be fine. you get what you pay for. this site does say cb radio forum not ham radio forum and your mixing them big time sorry but you are. look at these posts and how many actual replies. not a lot compared to the people who just view the thread but don't reply. trucks and cbs are mobile. ham stations are stationary. these new drivers are looking for useful info. on cb radio's not a bunch a crap they know nothing about or care about.sorry but a cb out on the road will only receive or get out but so far period. I'm in Utah the noise level now is nada its 3am here duh.factor in cell phone useage cell towers radio stations going xm radio in space. god knows how many satellites up there for gps units etc etc etc.it is only going to get but so good with a trucker cb including that big ole 400 watt so called barefoot ranger radio. white noise is horrific out here during the daytime just about anywhere when your mobile moving thru all types of cities nuff said too much said I'm burnt out. I'll get some sleep I guess when I die.

oh and craig are you talking on the 955 stryker or what. if you are try using it on upper or lower side band and see how far your getting out. they say Stryker has the best side band clarity wise. I dunno if that doesn't give some idea of what your going thru. put one of those top loaded antennas on that truck and see what ya get.I've never really seen anybody on here try to give you any real advice to help you and you've been playing with problem for awhile. I'm over this site it's getting ridiculous with all the trivial crap

I don't buy it, sorry rabbi but you're pitching something that is not impossible, just unlikely done. The thing I see is you are spinning your wheels and moving the target subject when confronted by someone who knows a lot more than you and maybe mark knows about the design of these radios.

There is a limited amount of mods that can be done without going off the board, just swapping out components doesn't mean much. The circuit design is basically the same because the board isn't modified to the extent that it can look as if it hasn't been touched while moving the circuit to a better performing design.

You have a few good points about receive but you, like mark and others haven't seen real top end radios or got a chance to learn how they actually operate to compare the preformance so to get what is good and what isn't. Not putting down others who are believers in cbs that have been invested in, are worthless, just the opposite. if they work - great - but if they don't then it is time to learn a little unbiased info to make good decisions. It is like everyone says take it to a tech (hack) to get fixed right out of the box, then someone has to say no until the entire picture is looked at.

While I no longer drive (retired) I still follow this forum. And BTW it use to be named ham/cb forum. While I was driving I used BOTH cb and ham radio. Also there are several ham/cbers that post on here.
