Dipoles Mounted to plastic fairing work for me on the Kenworth T2000 & Peterbilt 387.
Unfortunately the Freightliner Cascadia has a steel body with panels glued together which makes it difficult to attach something to the door and make it work which is why I would recommend attaching your antennas outside the fairings and grounding directly to the metal on the back of the cab which is a solid piece of Steel top to bottom.

the 579 stock antenna bracket only has a plastic cover over the rest of it. is not plastic bolted to metal it is a metal bracket bolted to the side of the metal cab. i have a 579 pete myself and i use the stock brackets but in saying that i did however run my own coax to the driver side bracket and only run on the driver side antenna im running a 5ft francis at the moment with a connex 4300 and its pretty good setup i get out 10 to 15 miles on good days and receive a lot more than that. if you take all the plastic apart on the inside of the truck and look at where the bracket is there are 2 ground wires running off them. peterbilt actually did the antenna brackets right in these trucks unlike the freightliner cascadia. also if you need help on installing a bigger radio in a 579 with out drilling holes i have a write up on here somewhere on what i did with mine as a connex wont fit in the cubby hole nor would i want it in there

Good info on how Peterbilt did it. If I move to a newer 579, it may have the same mounts.
