As a Michigan resident I am seeing a number of driving jobs that require Canada. I have been to Canada several times and have not been inspected or received a citation from Canada law enforcement.

When an inspection is performed in Canada and violations are found, do the points appear in the United States FMCSA SMS (Safety Management System) system as CSA points?

Do the points received in Canada for speeding citations issued in Canada appear on the United States driver's issuing state CDL driving record and the corresponding points appear in the United States FMCSA SMS (Safety Management System) system as CSA points?

I am going to guess no. Up until a few months ago you could look up any DOT number and see all the inspections/violations in the ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/ website. It has since been taken out of public view. I was nosey and looked up lots of carriers scores and never saw anything on there from Canadian inspections. I am my own carrier and only saw my US activity on there while having a few inspections in Canada.

All the violations are open for viewing. Been using the system heavily since June 2016, almost August 2016 now.Visit ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMS/Search/Index.aspx

I refer to the SMS records constantly. The first spot I examine is the Vehicle Maintenance Record. When I see repeat violations at small carriers and constant job postings it looks like the owners are just paying the fines and sacking the drivers when the driver's points get too high for the company's insurance carrier to continue to underwrite.

The answer to your question is NO! The FMCSA does not pay any of the Canadian Provence's to do inspections. It is these inspection forms where the CSA points get issued.

I think that Michigan has a reciprocating agreement with Ontario in regards of traffick tickets. I may be wrong but that's what I was told.

    Your right Ridgeline

I called into the CDL Help Desk run by the Michigan Secretary of State Department in Lansing Michigan. Traffic Citations, speeding etc. do appear on the Michigan CDL driving record of Michigan drivers receiving citations while driving in all Canadian provinces. Call was made 8/1/2016

Just to be clear there is a difference between a DMV record and CSA. If you get inspected in Canada it will NOT go on your CSA. If however a ticket is issued it may go on your MVR.

Ive done Canada quite a bit, there is a shortage of the so called virtuous virgins able to be bonded and sent into Canada.

I never had trouble there *Knock on wood. But am aware that tickets issued to me for speeding etc will get on my state DMV record. But other violations will be between me and the Crown. The United States will just have to wait.

It is amazing that a ticket in Canada, being a foreign country, can have an impact on one's motor vehicle report back in the United States of America.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
