Oh please, if you expect someone starting out to make top wages, you are certainly in the wrong business. No company is going to pay top wages to any new employee.

Now that companies have their own cdl schools they have all the new drivers they need to runa business. Its actually those who have been driving the longest that are at fault. The fact that they will drive for .48 cpm when truckers were making .48 cpm 20 years ago.

Aint nothing you nor anyone is going to be able to do anything about, because there is always someone graduating cdl school that will start off at .32 cpm because that is the standard starting pay for inexperienced drivers.

The fact that you think someone just starting out should be complaining about wages while they are still learning, says just how confused you are. The fact that you are willing to settle for the same wage you would have made 20 years ago with the same experience shows whos fault it really is. Stop blaming newbies for your own faults.

    Guys,
First off, I think it's terrible that you want to discourage someone new from joining Trans Am. Why don't half of you be honest and admit you don't drive for TransAm and never did, or you did drive for them ten years ago and acknowledge that things probably have changed alot.

Adrienne, don't believe all the negative stories your reading here. Truckers are notorious for sitting around the buffet at Petro and boo hoo'ing about how bad their lives are, how little money they are making but watch them drive off from the Petro in a $150,000 brand new rig that they got from driving for the same company they are telling people to stay away from.

Do your research, talk to drivers who are actively working for the company and not some yahoo sitting behind a laptop telling people how bad some thing is. Make your choice and give it a shot.

Get six months under your belt and if your not making what you need, move on. It's all about choices.

Right! Your experience with TransAm IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT. I was there a year and enjoyed my time there. Met some wonderful people there in safety, risk management, recruiting, recovery and abandonment. I highly recommend that you go company and learn on their dime Adrienne!

Hello Adrienna. How about an update? Did you sign on with TransAm? If so, how do you like it?
I'm looking at them seriously. I'm a recent grad. I'm out of Houston. Been trying to find something regional with weekly hometime but have now resolved myself to living on the road to get my experience. I agree with everything you said about being willing to make less money if it means being more comfortable. I've read tons of complaints on the forum about companies with bad equipment. TransAm looks like they put you into great trucks. Thanks for any info!

The trucks are good and you get the direct tv, so resets won't be too boring. You will average about 2700 miles per week. My advice is go company for at least 3 months, even tho they will push lease on you hard. No sense learning how to manage your time and fuel on your dime when you can do it on theirs. Yes, the lease always sounds good, I mean .84 instead of .31, but untill you learn time management and fuel management, you'll make more getting that .31cpm.
Otherwise they aren't too bad a company to work for as starter companies go. After 6 months to a year you can then go about anywhere and start making more.

Your profile says that you are out of Denver Colorado. Perhaps you could check into Navajo Express out of Denver Colorado.

Good luck to you! God bless you and your family!

A beginner has to start somewhere. A beginner is NOT going to be earning top dollar until he or she gets enough experience to do so.

Also, what the OP is or is not earning has nothing to do with your paycheck. What her employer is or is not paying her is between the two of them. What you earn on your paycheck is solely up to you.

TransAm has a terminal in Rockwall Texas, a suburb outside of Dallas. If you do go to TransAm, you may want to move from Houston to the Dallas area, to be much closer to the terminal. During home time, you could park your truck at the terminal for both safety and repairs / maintenance that may be needed on the truck.

Again, good luck to you! God bless you and your family!
