Thanks, Heavy. I had heard in the past that Knight was started by Jerry Moyes at Swift or one of his minions.

That may be a good company after all to work for if Swift doesn't have its hand in it. I'd recommend people check into them, as it sounds like they may be worth it.

Oh, I know all about I-95 north out of Virginia. I worked for Swift once (for three months) out of the Richmond terminal and became their "go to" guy for those NY runs (most went to Long Island) that others had dropped in that terminal yard. I was green back then and didn't see the scams and tricks, so I was suckered pretty good there for my first month.

Oh, yeah, I remember well those "friendly" Swifty drivers. Many of these jerks would pick up loads in places like Houston that were going to NYC. They'd ***************, moan, whatever, to get out of going to New York because they knew how to "milk" the system, and being as they were "experienced", they were allowed to drop those dreaded NYC loads in the yard at Richmond.

Guess who finished them up? Yeah, the greenies there got to see that I-95 North corridor a LOT. I was one of those, so I know all about that stretch. I didn't know any better back then. I didn't know that truck drivers themselves would play those dirty tricks, but I learned fast. I hot-footed it out of Swift on to better companies whose drivers treated each other much better. Yeah, I'd like somebody to try to pull that ************ on me I saw back at Swift these days. He'd be introduced to the ol' "knuckle-sandwich".

    I guess it didn't matter if one's truck would go 57, 62, 68, or 110 on an
I-95 run. It also didn't matter if he had all those pre-pass cards stuck to his windshield that supposedly made up for his slow pace.

Larry Knight and his family own Knight transportation.

I drove for them for a while out of their olive branch MS terminal. Bo Brigman is the terminal manager there. Knight is an excellent company for those who want nothing more than to be a company driver. Their lease program is typical of the industry, used to the bones trucks that they are phasing out of the fleet anyway. If you wanna owner-op and pull for knight, go out and get a truck from a third party, new or used, doesn't matter, but remember that you will have to govern it, even if its yours. I think its 72 so keep that in mind when you go truck shopping.

Most of their volvos are cummins engined, either N-14 on the 660's or isx on the 670s, all are 435 hp. They have a few of the D12 volvo engines in the fleet as well.

They are extremely particular about the looks of the tractors..if it gets scratched or dinged, they really don't care too much how it happened, but they will want you to get it into pheonix to get it fixed. I busted a side skirt thanks to a pothole..no questions asked..they fixed it.

Bo will remember me well, just tell him that the former driver of the volvo with highly polished aluminum sent you...you will be taken care of.

    BKE

ps...knight company trucks are governed at 64 mph

After reading posts here, I have to say that, at least to me, Knight would be worth a look. I used to live in Salt Lake City, and the Salt Lake Tribune would have Knight's help wanteds from time to time, about once or twice a week usually. I've always suspected them because of this, but maybe they're better than I think. I'll look into them when I get back that way.

I'm governed at 72, but short on horsepower. So, in order to make any time with such a truck you have to run wide open across the flats to make up for what you lose when you die on the hills, which is when all the Knights, Swifts, and JB Hunts pass me, just in time to blow their doors off on the back side.

Having a slower truck is at least somewhat tolerable when you have the horsepower to maintain that speed..

can anyone give me any good info on knight transportaion?? are they good on their miles? like say around 3000 or more a week running the 11 western states? what about their lease owner operator.
one of their recruiters told me that they are good on getting me the miles and that they are better than crst which i am working for now.
knight offered me a regional position (11 western states) saying they expect me to get 2500 miles a week as a solo company driver. is this because they cant get me more than 2500 miles cause they dont have the freight? i know i can get 3000 or more, its easy to do if you know how to do your log book right.
what about their lease owner operator. do they pay good on the miles??
any info on this would help me greatly. i dont want to join them and then i find out later that i made a bad mistake.

when you do, please send me a reply. they offered me a regional position running the 11 western states and promised that i would average 2600 to 3200 miles a week. they say they have alot of freight. i talked to one of their guys and he told me i should run the 48 states because i would definately get the miles and the problem with the regional position is that you might be stuck somewhere withno load out.
i hear that they do have a good owner operator program as far as leasing their trucks. the reruiter told me that if i want to do the 48 states, they cant garantee me any home time because as he puts it that sometimes they cant find a load out(back east).
any help would be greatly appreciated.

queston, you say that they are a good company. is that in terms in pay? miles? hometime? what about leasing their trucks?? i hear that a person can actually pick from a 2002 to 2003 freighliners or a 2002 to 2006 volvos.
were you running good miles? do they trip out on how you fill out log books.
only way to run 3000 miles or more is to finess it.

It sounds like Knight's being honest.

It would be difficult to get much more than 2500 miles a week if you were cooped up in the western states.

I'll say again--Knight looks like a company that is worth a look.
