I have pondered with this question for a while now . I hear drivers , say yes it is . I ask do you run brokered freight ? They say yes . What's the difference in the board , vs working with multiple brokers it's the same . I sometimes feel like it's better to run the board at least , I can try to stay in markets were the truck to load ratio is high . I can see if some small carriers were running all customer freight , but they pay cheap too .
? Load Boards junk loads , or not ?

Running load boards or for a broker.there is a difference.Yes brokers are on the board, but once you have a relationship with a broker he will call you before it hits the board .If he thinks you would be interested in it.I used a small broker that hardly ever post his loads
freight-time Thanks this. -
Is it fair to say if , a broker posts a load , It's a truck shortage in that area ? Why post if you don't have too ?
-
To get a cheaper carrier or no trusted carrier in the immediate vicinity to make the appointment times
-
Could be shortage,he's trying to move it probably has called some carriers that wouldn't take. Not all loads on the board are bad.The head aches are sorting thru the bad ones trying to get a good load.

Thank you , I'm just so tired of hearing people calling it the junk board . You are , either direct , or have brokered freight .

Load Boards work, it is just that with anything that is easy some people exploit it for profit. Like if I had a load going from Alabama (high truck ratio) to North Carolina (high truck ratio) some brokers will post to see if they can get a lower rate than the usual guys. So, if somebody calls and says I will take it for a few dollars less then they will go with that guy. Especially if this AL to NC load is not one of my time tested tried and true customers. It is the reason why dry van food loads sometimes get bottomed out. It takes some rookie broker (think TQL)a couple seconds to get a guy to haul water from population center to population center.
rollin coal and freight-time Thank this. -
I run 100% brokered van freight, this is how usually works and I will make an example on today's load. The truck is 220 miles away from home, its Friday 11am I post the truck on the board. A broker calls offering $550 to take 42k bottled water for a 10pm delivery appt, I counteroffer $750, he says no.
I call on a posted load, 10k of plastics,FCFS delivery on Monday, broker offers $450, I make him an offer of $750 he says no.
30 min later broker #1 calls back offering $700, I decline. Broker #2 calls offering $550 I decline. Sit for an hour, nothing else pops up, I get worried about sitting all day, call back to get the first load for $700, its gone. I call broker #2 and say that I will take his load for $650, he declines, I decide to wait a bit more.
Sit another 30 min, broker #2 calls back and gives me $650. I book it.
Have to play these games almost every day. Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose, but even if you loose, you still gotta be profitable, otherwise there is no point in being part of this whole circusIron-Man, fordconvert, mp4694330 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I would play the same game except I would call 50 different brokers. The only people that would call is FL loads looking for a sucker!!

I make tons of calls too, but since I like coming home for the weekend, I am usually limited with options at the end of the week
