Very unique situation - dot rules?

The only thing I can say that would be 100% would be to call DOT FMCSA and the local DMV. And then cross reference. As we all know those big truck fines aren't cheap, and id rather just spend the two hours researching than spending two weeks of work paying those fines...

My DMV is extra greedy, that's why I say cross reference. Had to register a bronco as a combination vehicle... Extra 120$ then I asked a different one and they said no...

Apportioned plates are only for CMV's conducting interstate operations which he won't be. RV works and most states aside from CT and RI don't have combination plates that I've ever seen, that's basically a state scam to assume your using your personal vehicle for work which can be gone around. Being a POV at that point he doesn't even legally need a CDL to drive it.

 

Even with air brakes?

 

We have combination plates up here, and I'm pretty sure you can only get away with driving an RV over 26k without a CDL I don't think it's personal. At least in my state I can't speak federally

 

Yes a quick peak states you need a CdL for a Basically everything except a RV in ct over 26k or has air.

This is why I never call and ask anybody anything! Look up the REAL law and you dictate that to THEM!

I mean it weighs nothing thanks to New England rust!

 

So everyone is saying that you dint need a dot number when doing something like this... But why does this promotional truck above have a dot number in its fuel tank?

You need a DOT for anything over 10k right? Regardless of use? In combination or not... So ridiculous

 

Actually I'm wrong. DOT numbers only for guys in commerce. So No DOT number, I'd probably get RV plates and maintain a CDL, and I think you Should be gravy no matter what comes your way.
