CTL Transportation new hire experience 2016

Thanks, Chinatown! Not sure if I can get hired doing tankers at this time, but I'll look. Really thinking about re-entering the driving world. Golf job not paying anything.

 

If you're careful and do some research, you can make great money driving and do some traveling at the same time. You can always get some more driving time experience then go back to tankers later if you want.

 

How's it going robot? You struggling with this half-tank surge like I am?

 

Everything I've done so far has been class 3 flammable, except the load we deliver here in a couple hours, it's non hazmat. It's some sort of metalworking fluid emulsion stuff, but it's so heavy they could only fill up our trailer about 55%. I've really been struggling with controlling it. I cant wait to offload it.
I don't mind the OTR too much so far. They put me in a motel every night so that's been nice. It is hard being gone from the kiddos though.
Probably the only thing I really do not like so far, is all the tolls you have to pay. Going from PA to NJ, over to Chicago like we did last few days, I swear my trainer paid out of pocket at least $400 in tolls. Sure you keep the receipts and get reimbursed, but come on. CTL needs to get EZ Pass or something. I don't have that kind of cash to carry around.

 

I am thinking about trucking again. I went back to being a golf pro at Southbridge in Savannah and it doesn't pay very well at all. I was hoping to give some lessons to make some good money but that hasn't really materialized.

I'm guessing I'm not mentioned at the terminal in a good way! In the end, I goofed up and it was all on me. For some reason, I really thought I was automatically going to be fired for the spill so I kept it from the company. I personally talked to the company president on the phone and he seemed like a good guy and we had a good conversation, but he deferred to Su's decision in safety down in Tampa. I don't know if CTL would ever give me another shot, but even if they did, I worry about the other drivers' reactions to me in Savannah.

 

You probably will never be hired by them again and even if they were to give you another shot, I wouldn't want to go back to them. You can do much better that CTL. If you want to pull tankers I would try Superior Carriers or a local gas hauling outfit. If you don't want to pull tanks anymore I would find a descent dry van company, drive for them for a year, and then try moving on to a better company like maybe Big G Express or whatever you can find.
