In the process of finishing school and will have my CDL soon. That being said I am trying to find where the best place to start is. There are so many places out there I don't know where to start. Appreciate any comments in advance

Best Place to Start is relative to what you want to do, how you want to run, and where you want to run. Do you have family (wife & kids) as this is another consideration. Fill in the blanks and we will help to narrow your search!

Pick a place, you are most likely not going to be there more than 6 months to a year. Pick what ever sounds the best for you situation and go, get some experience and while you are out on the road, look into where you next want to go. Talk to drivers, learn about the companies you have never heard of. That's where you will begin to make money and enjoy the job.

Put your location on your profile; we can't recommend much if we don't know the hiring area you live in. Also, age matters, are you over 21,22 or 23.

I am sorry for not filling in the blanks. That would help a lot. I am looking to come home every other weekend if possible. I live in N.C and looking to drive OTR. I know never doing it I have to start with it and go from there. I also understand every other weekend may not be possible. I have been looking in to TMC transportation. I know the flat bed is more work ,but I like the way this company sounds. Anyone know anything about it. Thanks for the comments so far. I appreciate everyone trying to help me out.

Flatdecking is work! You will get dirty, and get tired of hauling around tarps.

On the plus side, decks usually get loaded and unloaded quick! Like right now! No sitting around for three days.

Deck work is OK, if you are physically capable of climbing around on a 14' tall load of whatever, and hooking 1001 Bungee cords.

You'll also become proficient at throwing straps over a load, requiring strength and ability that would mirror that of a football pro.

How far you want to run is up to you... My last deck job, I just did day trips. Home every night.

If you have a family, that would work best. If you leave for weeks at a time, your wife will most likely hook up with your friend, and then file for divorce. Understand this.

If you're single? Enjoy the open road. I did! I'm local now, but I've been driving for a long time!

    You're in NC.

Look into Watkins Shepard in Conover NC- exit 128 on I-40.

Orientation is an easy 2 weeks then you're in your own truck. And, it is possible to be home every weekend, if that's what you want.
