Has anyone out there been through TMC's CDL training? Not the New Graduate Orientation, but the actual no experience CDL training. I am contemplating making a decision if I receive an offer from them.

Yes, I've recently went through the program. What are your questions?
-
Thx for the response Buckeye!
My recruiter gave me the basic run down on the flow of training. She said 2 weeks for initial CDL, then start 2 week company orientation then start on the road training which is 4-5 weeks.
The 2 weeks CDL training is unpaid (which I am fine with and prepared for)
Orientation and on the road training is paid $500 per week
1st 2 weeks in your own truck is guaranteed $1000 per week
Is all of that pretty accurate? (I am sure that depends on what stage of the program you are in at the moment)
Are the $500/wk and $1000/wk GROSS? I am assuming they are.
Finally, I read on the TMC website that you don't get your first check until 2 wks after starting orientation. Is this the case? Just trying to budget my finances and such.
Also, how was the training generally? Living accommodations during CDL training and Orientation? -
The CDL training program last 3 weeks which is unpaid. Then 5 weeks out with a trainer which you are paid $500 gross a week. They combine the orientation and CDL training in all that time. The first 2 weeks are guaranteed $1000. The last day you are at CDL school is your official hire date. Training is awesome, the instructors are great. Really patient with the new guys. They put you up in a Baymont Inn which the company owns.
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info! Sounds exciting for sure and I am glad to hear that the instructors are great. Where are you in the process? On the road or still in class?
I knew they put you up in the company hotel, but I am curious...do you share a room with another student? Not a big deal if thats the case, but just curious. These days with all the craziness, you never know who you might get paired up with!
Finally...when did you receive your first paycheck? Trying to budget for paying bills and such. I understand that 1st 3 weeks is unpaid, but then did you get paid at the end of the 4th week?
Thanks again for the info, much appreciated! -
I'm on the road with a trainer. Just about to finish my second week. Yes you share a room with another person that will be in your class. Yes I received my first check last week. Another note, it would be wise to get your CDL permit before you come. We had a guy in our class get sent home because he failed the Iowa CDL permit test twice.

Thanks again for the info. I am working on my permit here in MD before I come out. My recruiter told me to make sure I get that done before training.
Good luck on the road, let me know how it goes! -
Will do, keep in touch
-
How's it going??
-
Puppage...its not...I was not chosen by the hiring committee. My recruiter told me that they went with other better qualified applicants. Not sure what that means considering I was doing their CDL program. I am researching some other companies now....Maverick and Roehl are on the short list.
