Now you are getting into silly assumptions and guessing games. What if...what if, do you think....maybe they...
I mean...seriously? Even the most perfect truck driver out there isn't going to log exactly to the letter due to all sorts of situations. I think that most drivers do log their book as best they can. Sometimes they might personally decide not to log a issue with tandems as on duty because that could give them 15-30 minutes of extra driving time...in theory.
Nobody has told me to log anything on line one if I was working.
If it is a live load / unload...or ANY OTHER work that is not driving, you are to go down to line 4. SNI's policy is that you are not to work after 14 hours. The regs say that a driver can work beyond is 14 hour mark, but SNI doesn't want you doing anything...even if it is on duty not driving.
Then why are you on here giving SNI crap. I have never been told, hinted, whispered in a fart, implied, directed, morse code, smoke signaled...or was told in any other way, direct or indirect to work or log illegally.
Anything the driver does is of HIS OWN discretion.
My point of the understandings is that a driver will tell a DBL or dispatcher that they want more miles, or that they are willing to help out whenever possible. However, the DBL won't knowingly dispatch work to the driver knowing he is out of hours; he might just ask the driver if he has some extra hours or wants to pull another load...etc.
That very issue has been brought up on here and I dont think there is a definitive answer...at least I can get one from the guys working in DOT. I've been told that if you are in a city and have multiple stops, you can go down to line 4. However a rep from DOT says you need to mark what you drive and work. I don't see how I can make a rollercoaster in my logbook of driving and on duty when Im in a town for 20-30 minutes at three stops.
Also...SNI uses HHMG miles...so they just pay to the zip code and by the mile TO that zip code. They dont pay hub miles.
Keep talking about all this pay and such...money money money...if you keep talking like that, Im going to start figuring you for a union worker. Worship at the altar of the great union boss and the dollar bill.
Sorry to write so much, I only reply when I see something that is dumb.
I dont see how SNI can have any less comforts than any other carrier out there. all the comforts are in the truck. they let you idle for a certain amount of time. They don't have APUs on their tractors yet, but many large carriers dont yet. I think Martin has fully equipped their fleet finally but they dont have the same number of trucks as SNI.
You keep whining on SNI, but the fact is that there are thousands upon thousands of trucking companies out there and MILLIONS of drivers who have to deal with the same things every single day and have DONE SO for years / decades. heres an idea, instead of whining about the comforts in your sleeper so you can confine yourself to watching TV and DVDs or surfing the internet...get off your bass, get inside the truck stop and socialize.
I know a guy on a blog site...professional driver. He doesnt sit and whine about comforts or anything else. He writes all the time about his hobby and how he goes into a truck stop or bar, or restaurant and knits for hours...strikes up great conversation with people every single day.
And then we have others that complain about the comforts like getting an APU so they can turn it down to 55 degrees when its 70 degrees outside with a nice breeze; all so they can lock themselves in the bunk and live in the closet when they dont drive.
There are truck drivers and then there are professional truck drivers who make this a lifestyle. And if you have to think about which one a whiner and complainer is...you dont know much abotu the trucking industry.
As far as drivers that remain legal and refuse to work illegally, what happens to them? They stay with the company. One of the top drivers on my account has been there for over 10 years and he follows the laws to a T. I've had to wait for him to bring me up a load and because he just got back from another load and he called to tell me his ETA because he was going to go home and do his 10 hour.
Please dont start assuming because of the 3 SNI employees you have talked to said one thing...that really is silly.
yeah, really sounding pro union now here buddy. So...tell me, how do you think drivers should be compensated?
Does This Sound Like a Reasonable Plan?
