It's done. Had to pass a vision test, and they called Ontario Transportation to clear up confusion about air brakes and boom, they gave me my Class A CDL on the same day. For the most part, people are very friendly here - not lazy like many are in the southeastern US and more polite and friendly than those in the northeast. They took my Ontario license and put in a safe in case I return there.
-
What state did you end up moving to?
-
Any reason you can't keep your Ontario license? If you can live here and work here legally, why (unless you're taking up long term residence) would you need to swap licenses?
-
Brank, i am having same scenario as you was having.. I have canadian AZ truck lic and want to change usa CDL. I am residence in Ilinois. please tel me how you give north dakota residency proof? did they asked you for it?
-
I exchanged my Ontario license for a N Dakota license.
US employers want/require a US license.
As for proof of residency, NDakotaDOT was not real picky with this. It has been a while and I don't exactly remember, but I'm pretty sure they wanted to see my green card. -
The exchange program is only for the northern states that borders Canada provinces, the province of Quebec dot told me they only recognize bordering states, I was also told the same in Ontario.
That has nothing to do with what the different states do between each other. -
Hi Brank, thanks for reply... they gave you exchanged USA CDL same time in hand or they mailed you?
if mailed then what address you gave, local Ndakota or the State you actual living.
Did they asked for NDakota address!
As i mentioned before i am in ILLINOIS not in NDakota
