While heading west on I-70 out of Denver, climbing the Rockies with 42K lbs, my drive axle oil temps hit about 260°/225° respectively. Is this excessive, or indicative of a problem?
Too hot, or not?

Good question... Looking forward to learning myself.

Is your diff overfilled? A bunch of our KWs had that problem.. all were overfilled when we got them from MHC. Drained the diff down to the proper level, problem went away.

Could be indicative of an internal diff problem, overload, wrong fluid or overfilled as posted above.

Contaminated fluid and faulty breathers are possibilities, as well.

Well, I have to ask. Is costly, or impossible, to have these kind of sensors installed on trucks that do not come with them? Or is it even worth it?
Imbecile? Maybe. Curious? Always.Bob Dobalina Thanks this. -
Diff temp sensors? It could be feasibly done. Exactly how you'd go about it would depend on whether your truck predated CAN communication or not.
