Frankly the way I look at it...the issue of speed limiters is this...leave it to the owners of the vehicle to decide how fast they want them set...the government has NO business meddling in business....anyone who thinks letting the gout dictate...then for all we care...exit this country please .

I agree. But ain't gonna happen. The government has their control over all segments of society. To many will race you to the next giveaway for their 'rightful share '. Trucking now has too many in this industry on their monthly payout. It's not coming, it's already here. Like it or not, I hate it myself, but be prepared for more and more control.

I won't give in either! It's a daily fight. If we ever really demand a financially responsible government, we might have a chance to live in freedom.

There were several reasons the US made a remarkably swift transition from horse powered conveyance to cars/trucks.

The first was safety - horses can freak out and run amuck, or ignore their driver (just like ongaurd), and run down "innocent" children. Additionally if a horse gets injured it pretty much needs to be put down immediately. That left horse carcasses littering the streets of major population centers. If you've ever read Faulkner you'll see his ubiquitous dead mule in the road.

Secondly was the Poop Problem. By the end of the American Civil War the population of horses was staggering, as was the amount of land being used to feed said horses (think about 25-30% of arable land). Each horse makes about 5 lbs of poop a day. Think about how bad most truck stops smell, then replace each engine with ten horses. In the 1880s NYC held a Poop Conference to figure out what to do with all the poop. It was supposed to last a week, they left after a day and a half because no one had any idea of what to do.

The massive amounts of poop regularly caused epidemics of cholera and similar diseases, as well as aggravating conditions like asthma.

So horses - not so safe and not so green.

Prime is already thinking how to govern the horses so there's less poops per mile.
