Or just keep your medical card up to date every two years and no need to worry about it.

A med card registered with your DMV will keep your CDL actively But that not always the case with motor carriers. They may require You take a refresher course.Spyke Thanks this.

What does that usually entail in cost and time? Or rather, what should it? I see some schools offering things and courses that might not be as useful as they seem in the advertising.

The company I run with has a simple internal refresher program... If you have a CDL and some experience they match you up to run with a trainer for a few weeks to see how you drive and get you back into the swing of driving.
One can find options to a formal refresher from a school. But that might take some looking too. -
Its a short course updating your skills.I think any company that offers schooling also has a refresher course.I don't know if you would have to sign a yr contract though.Spyke Thanks this.

It all depends, the people at the SoS sometimes will give you differing opinions of what you can and can't do. I got the suspension letter less than three days after my dot temp expired and I had to fight with idiot behind the counter that I had a grace period. but she wasn't buying it.
I go to another and the guy said np.
The problem is this - the FMCSA allowed the states to come up with their own policy, not telling them that a suspended/revoked license doesn't mean cancelled privileges, there is a huge difference. If you have a suspended/revoked license, that can be reinstated while a cancelled license means that you have to retest. -
I am pretty sure it is just downgraded to a class D, not suspended or revoked.
