Chances are the desk jockeys assume that a driver will just as soon pay for the damage as get clocked with a preventible on their job history or DAC. The point being is I have no doubt they will clock the DAC with a preventably in any case. The office staff is just looking to get the money, get damage off the books and onto a driver as a preventable, and then have some leverage against the driver in the form of a preventable. That just how these spiteful types work.

Best to fight it now and work to get written conformation that the accident is considered non-preventable. No need to roll over and take it with a smile like so many drivers do.

^^^ I am sure some desk jockey has the answer for that. Probably a JJ Keller film to go along with it.

I hired on with a outfit a long time ago. They wanted me to sign a form that stated I could be responsible for accidents resulting in the loss of a load. As in pay for the freight. I refused to sign the paper. Safety initialed it with the phrase "refused to sign".

    Issue resolved.
This time I went to the boss of the logs department and told him what safety was doing (he's senior over them).
He just said, "no, that's not right. wait here a second ..."
Came back one minute later and said, "forget about it, it's taken care of".
Every conflict at my company - really, every one - that I took up the chain of command has resolved in my favor. That's not nothing vis-a-vi the over all integrity of my employer.

Later, I approached one of the two owners the company and told him that I like my job though there were some things I objected to. I said to him that I am still here because his senior management have always helped me to quickly correct the problems.

We talked a little about why drivers quit and I suggested that less drivers would quit if he better got the message across that there really is an effective "open-door" policy that drivers should use instead of just complaining to each other. This was well received.

Some people have thicker skin than others. When someone tries to "punk" me I get very offended and tend to inflate the issue in my own mind. My over reaction (emotionally) shows me I am more insecure than I want to admit.

    Upsetting experiences can be instructive.
