Experiencing UPS love? It comes and goes, been doing the big Brown thing for the last 20 years. Benefits are a good thing, a pay check that never bounces is good too. Regular UPS drivers make 36 buck an hour at full wage/ end of wage progression. Are guaranteed 40 hours a week, most tractor drivers work 60 hours overtime after 8 hours and or 40. Sleeper drivers on a good run clear over 130.000 a year, not bad for just bringing shoes to work, uniform is provided by the company

Also need a tax shelter----might experiment with uber going to and from work.

i have to say even though the job isn't fun for me anymore, this is still one of the best gigs i've had in trucking. And while the company is not perfect and has become very anal----due to the influence of UPS corporate, it's still one of the best run and well organized companies i've been associated with. Possibly THE best one.

    Job isn't fun anymore.
Still better than food or beverage though.
Thinking about inquiring about truckload division.

Sorry to hear that brother...what about applying for the dockworker position if that becomes available?

I loved working on the docks. Did it a couple times when work was slow and got to talk to dockworkers about what the job was all about. From what I remember they work about 10 hours a day, so you would roughly be making the same amount as you were as a P&D driver (that's if you're not working 12-14 hours a day). Just unload the P&D trailers, match pro numbers and reload onto the linehaul trailers. Nothing difficult what so ever about the job. The hardest part is pushing the buttons on the screen on the forklift when a task is done (your fingers tend to hurt after a while when you're pushing in the buttons all day) and dealing with the weather when it's cold outside. From what they told me, they make over $70k a year (that's top rate). Not bad for driving a forklift all day.

Hit me a PM if you're possibly condsidering working for USPS. They've already posted up FULLTIME career positions in other states.

If the tractor was brown and grey AND they had doubles then it's most likely LTL AND both drivers ARE MAKING SERIOUS BREAD. If the tractor was white and towing a van, then most likely truckload. i know nothing about how truckload pays, but i'm guessing it's not as good as LTL.

i heard that team drivers out of "The big H" (UPSF drivers will know what i'm talking about) have a 3-4 day work week and gross $1500 MINIMUM and touch NOTHING but the steering wheel, shift knob and dolly crank handles......

i mean just look at the parking lot of ANY ups freight terminal----nothing but new 1/2, 3/4 ton pickups, cadillacs, acuras, etc. THAT should tell you something.......

UPS Parcel sleeper trucks are white. They pull vans quite a bit too.
They have the UPS shield on both doors.

I'd encourage you to stick it out a couple more years until you're at top scale. By then it'll be well over $30/hr and it won't matter if the job is fun because you'll be well compensated to do it. I've never heard of UPS Truckload drivers being paid well, but I could be wrong.

A buddy of mine works at UPS (parcel). He hates the job and the pay progression, but it is about to be worth it. He is keeping his eye on the prize.

If you're looking for a job for it's fun factor you will be hopping from job to job for the rest of your life. There are no fun jobs, especially in trucking.
If you want to make money expect to work hard for it.
Don't leave a good paying job because it's not fun to work at another job that isn't fun and pays less.
Lots of job hoppers do this and just end up tarnishing their job history and no reputable employer wants them after that. And they never end up finding the "fun" job.

Mike2633 and Bob Dobalina Thank this.
