People tried to talk me out of this career change along those lines. I
think even if they had a better than human driver, every single accident or close call would be major news and lawsuits. Just like how human truckers suffer unfair scrutiny in every accident currently. The idiot in the ford focus is much more likely to take you out, but the idea of being squashed by a semi is so much more emotionally terrifying. Same thing with bee stings, shark attacks, and plane crashes. I think its a while before the public is comfortable enough to support it. On the other hand, the regulatory bodies care less and less what the public thinks.

I'd love to see how the computer does backing a load into some of these oilfield rigs.

    Lepton1 and crb Thank this.

I wonder if the men that drive trains are worried about robots taking their job?

I'd love to see a computer back a truck. All the sensors are in the cab, they'd have to outfit each and every trailer with another electrical line and mount cameras/sensors on the rear end for it to back it properly.

And just like everything else in the oilfield those sensors would be buried under dust and grime and completely useless. ;)

We will probably see automated trucks running between warehouses in the beginning.

You could write parameters into the code and make sensors obsolete....

    Friday Thanks this.

And what of a mud road with slippery sections? Not every backing scenario is on a nice piece of pavement.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
