The HF Freedom 1055 inverter / charger. In the same line they have a 1000w with 30A charging and a 1800w with 20 amp charging. I didn't need a lot of hotel load, I got it mostly for keeping batteries up and some lighter in sleeper hotel loads, so I got the 1000w inverter / 55 amp charger version. It is not pure sine wave, but that is a non issue as I have a Tripplite line conditioner plugged into the Xantrex to give me pure wave for my electronics needs. It was a much cheaper alternative than a pure sine wave inverter/charger. When the generator is plugged up to it, the pure sine wave from the generator passes on thru to the outlets while at the same time the charger is getting the batteries fully charged.
Oops, forgot to mention there is also a 2000w inverter / 55 amp charger in this same Xantrex line. Also did a look see, and they now have a pure sine wave 1000w / 55 amp charging version that is very reasonably priced.Last edited: Aug 1, 2016
nonsense007 and Terry270 Thank this. -

To power something that draws 200 amps at 13.6 volts, you multiply volts times amps to get watts.
200 amps times 13.6 volts equals 2720 watts. You'll want a generator that can put out at least 4000 watts so it isn't running full tilt all the time.Terry270, OSCBRADLEY and TheLittleGuy Thank this. -

I am by no means an expert on your system. But 200amps seems a bit extreme. I would try to get another opinion on that. Most trucks dont even have a 200amp alternator.
I'm of the opinion,.. (Opinion,.. not expert advice) that a small 2000 watt generator with an AC 12v plug in battery charger/jump box plugged into it should be more than enough to keep those batteries charged

Thats exactly what I was thinkin!!! furthermore, if I brought it home and plugged the truck into shore power in a 110 outlet and it ran the ParkSmart just fine, if it really drew 200amps wouldnt it have blown a fuse at the house? I called the Freightliner mechanic back and asked how he arrived at 200amps. He said that the system has two 70 amp relays in it so if you add those together its 140 amps and then just bump it up to 200 just to be on the safe side. Personally, im thinking a 1000 watt generator ought to run it just fine. Still cheaper than replacing all 4 deep cycle batteries at $300 each.

Ok... so I had no idea what a Parksmart system was and had to google it. According to the technical manual, it draws either 40 amps off the auxiliary batteries or 70 amps when the engine is running.
70 amps at 13.6 volts is 952 watts.
952 watts at 120 volts is 7.93 amps.
So... as long as the generator is capable of putting out 1000 watts continuously, it will run it. I'd probably go with something a little bigger like a Honda EU2000i though.OSCBRADLEY Thanks this. -
Where are you getting 120 volts?
