And remember.... Cotton kills in the cold. Wool sox with a thin polypropylene liner sock to wick away the moisture from your feet.

Not sure. This is the first place I've lived that gets super cold. When I was OTR I just wore my regular hiking boots because I was rarely in bad conditions for very long, but since I live here I will have to deal with cold weather everyday.

I was hoping to find something I could wear both at work, and out running errands (grocery, gas, usually everyday living stuff).

Those are pretty nifty. I've never even heard of something like that before!

Didn't know that! They make a killer regular workboot!

Thanks for the ideas folks. Sounds like the best thing would be to get a pair of leather boots a size too big and get some warm socks (not cotton, so Merino wool?)

Speaking of cotton, in the winter do you wear any cotton whats so ever? I usually wear cotton shirts, and jeans. I already know not to wear jeans when I could potentially get them wet since they don't dry.

If I'm going to be out in the cold alot like when I'm going to spend the whole day on the ice or deer hunting no cotton touches my skin anywhere.

Merino wool is good to use for socks.

For context, I'm in central Canada on the prairies. The coldest we had last winter was -38 Celsius. I wear no cotton at all. Even t-shirts. A little bit of sweat will freeze in cotton, sucking the heat right out of you. When wool or poly pro gets wet or damp, it doesn't stay that way. Even damp, wool still insulates. If your doing hard work in the cold like tarping, ltl on an unheated dock, etc go in layers. Our cold is a dry cold for the most part. You get -15 around the Great Lakes, with all that moisture and it feels worse than -30!
