My experience with SWIFT so far has been very positive! They seem to have enough work/miles to go around and have done everything they seed they would! I've heard good and bad about SWIFT from people and on-line,and have come to the conclusion that people in general exaggerate the bad and forget about the good! They have a decent benefits package and you don't have to pay for you're school up front, not to mention it's basically an interest free loan! $37.50 a week for one year to pay you're portion back really isn't bad, and if you stay on the second year they pay you the $37.50 a week back, so after two years you're school is essentially free! Most of the things I hear people complaining about are typical for any company you work for. I'm sure their are a few exceptions out there, but I couldn't tell you who they are. I've never been one to complain much, sometimes you just have to "get ur done" you know what I mean! New drivers don't have allot of options, so if you're a new driver, I think they are a good company to start with. After a few years I'll have more experience and maby I'll be singing a different tune. but until then I have a CDL, schools getting payed for, and I have a job! Best of luck to both of you! Polk Salit out!Nomadbeginner, AfterShock and InMyDreams Thank this. -
really helps out with the transition. Thanks again and hopefully I'll see ya out there.
polk salit Thanks this. -
Polk is right theres not a company out ther that won't leave a bad taste in your mouth. Bottom line is you get out what you put in and the attitude is everything. I don't work for Swift but a big Co. the same and they can get to me at times but when you get your own truck the world changes and you learn to just do the best you can you can't control what the company dose just what you do. Hold true to your appt's drive safe and you will do fine. I drove for Swift 11 years ago and had no problems.
Best of luck on your venture.
6pak says drive it like you own it cause thats when your at your best.....polk salit Thanks this. -
This thread has been quite an interesting read. I actually considered Swift, but decided to go with Crete...Or at least that is the plan. My current job pays really well, but I have no benefits. Sure, I could get health insurance to the tune of $1340 a month (are they insane?!!?) but there's other places out there. Get health insurance if you don't have it already!!! It is well worth it!
Anyway, I look forward to the updates. Hopefully I will be in a Crete truck before too much longer. Stay safe. -
As I've seed before positive people get positive results! No I'm not a recruiter, but if I can get paid extra for being positive, who do I talk too! Just kidding. I can appreciate you're current position, as becoming a truck driver has been a major life change for me as well! When you're trying to make important decisions that drastically affect you and you're family's lives, you need real answers not exaggerated opinions! I have found though, some people on this thread to be honest and very helpful! I feel I've made the right decision and as I get older and medical insurance gets more expensive, I'm sure will bare witness to this! I hope all this helps. Beast of luck to you! Polk Salit out! -
Hay 6pak4-two,
I just wanted to say hi and I hope all is well with you! Thank you very much for you're help and encouragement over the last few months. You are one of the people I was referring too in my last post. You're thoughts and incite seem strait forward and honest, and have been a big help to me in my decision making proses. All is going well with me. I'm on my last week out with my mentor. Hopefully next week I'll get my own truck!!? Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks! Gods speed to you! Polk Salit out! -
I worked for them for a yr, and I can say this they have decent medical insurance. Their better than most of the companies I have looked into. Now driving local, and really can't stand it.. My job depends mostly on the weather, and lately it hasn't been all that positive.. When the youngest gets out of school ( 2yrs) the wife and I plan on going back, and maybe Swift since they did treat me good overall.. I didn't make much money, mostly because it was my first yr, and probably did not do all the things they ask of you right. Sure it was frustrating, but what the heck, now with 3yrs under my belt, I know more about driving and dealing with customers and planning than I ever did..

I been with swift for about 1 1/2 years now its not that bad. One thing that I have found out from my time here and having family members in the trucking game is working with the right people. I have a dm that works his butt off for me and I do the same. I hope everything works out polk salit and in my dreams. Im happy here.
