It was 2100 and I was headed down I 96 in Michigan and my hours were about gone. I was getting kind of worried that I might not find a free spot but all those fears are gone when I saw a completely deserted Rest area. It's only occupants were two school buses and DOT with lights flashing. I rolled the dice. So far so good, but I wonder how many drivers out there I got a run tired because they do not want to pull in. Will it be woken up tonight, who knows.. I hope this doesn't become a trend. Saul rest area in Ohio last week full of DOT doing inspections

Dot doing inspections in rest area has been common thing for as long as I can remember.
Sometimes they'll even put out one of those Orange signs ALL TRUCKS MUST EXIT.

I've been seeing a lot of trucks rolling into the rest stop, when they see the DOT they just roll right out.;)

Michigan especially likes doing it. Last time I went through they had a JB container picked apart in the 94 WB one by Kalamazoo. Wasn't much of a concern stopping though, they were plenty occupied.

Virginia is another state that loves raiding a busy rest area and knocking on doors.

New York, Pennsylvania and Texas Like to play- They put out a Sign to Get trucks in- Then 1 Cop sits at the entrance to the Rest area- Picking and Choosing the next inspection victim.

    Pretty Sad- I suppose...

I think that is a low down dirty money grabbing tactic on their part. There is already a shortage of parking. Leave us alone so we can get our rest.

That's when the on-ramp a couple miles down the road gets watered.

Add that to the list of reasons why I prefer day cabs. DOT won't knock on a motel room door to inspect the truck in the motel parking lot...and they'd better not come 'round the house without an appointment.
