They cant even make self checkouts in stores work by themselves properly. We still have to stand in line for a half hour to get some cheese cut lol

The problem with a driver at the controls of a truck waiting for something to happen is that when something does happen that driver would have to react almost instantaneously. In a plane, in vast majority of situations, the pilot has at least a few seconds to orient himself and start paying attention. If the self driving truck decides to run itself into a bridge or if a steer blows and that "driver" that's sitting there doesn't have his hands on the wheel and isn't paying attention, the accident will happen anyway.
With that... What's the point of even having the tech? If the driver has to be paying constant attention to what the truck is doing, why not just have them drive the thing?Toomanybikes Thanks this. -
And of course the manufacturing companies are saying the driver could catch up on paper work.

You can makeup a million scenarios if it eases your soul... Driverless trucks are coming.

I never said anything about trains that are on their way to someplace, and yes, its been about ten years or so that railyard locomotives have been automized. Most railroad employees are union,
which must make the R/R companies upset, that they cant replace them with robotics, instead.
And dont anyone go off on me about unions. I was a Teamster Union driver for a few years myself, and I like unionization. Contrary to the myths that surround unions, we worked just as hard as any non union drivers did.
You did NOT slack off on the job at all. You got that freight there on time, period. No excuses.Last edited: Aug 25, 2016
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
If they come one day...nothing we can do about it...over time jobs come and go.....

Yes, they are. As far as backing goes, they could use human hostlers to do that, once the rig got to destination. Mark my words: It will be the big OTR companies that will use driver-less trucks first.
Learn to like doing local LTL and P&D work, or being a hostler, cause long haul trucking is coming
to a slow downshift into low gear. Better, learn a trade like auto or truck mechanics, or become an electrician. Those guys make some serious money and they are still home most nights or days. -

The automated trucks will replace the steeringwheelholder. That will actually take some time. The guys like me will be rendered obsolete much quicker, because on the other end of the spectrum, they have been developing a genetically enhanced driver...like Captain America in a truck. Its called Project: @Ruthless.
Oh well, I guess I will just have to get out of the truck. Cant compete with the genetic freaks.Lepton1, AModelCat, Orangees and 1 other person Thank this. -
If driver-less trucks come before i'm done i guess I'll buy a few and then just kick back drink beer. Watch the money roll in!
