Who gets to pull triples?

Who GETS to pull triples? How about, who WANTS to pull triples? Not me.

 

did doubles, ate time, unless it pays better, why triples?

 

I don't get to pull triples as they're not legal in NY. Pup doubles are fairly stable unless you're shaky at steering, but the rear trailer tends to move about double what the front one does, from side to side. Triples, I expect, move a similar proportion again at the third trailer, hence the continual wiggling.

I would do it, for the challenge, and because I'm one of those weird people who likes to find a niche everyone else hates, and make it my personal favorite thing to do.

I suppose one could learn a few tricks to speed up the process of drop n hooks. another challenge is where does one park? and they gotta be broke apart for delivery some where then put back together.who knows. might luck out and get three open docks at same time or another driver awaits the shuffle

 

Both Indiana and Ohio require drivers to have 5 years experience pulling doubles before applying for a permit to pull triples. I did it many times between Gary, IN and Akron,OH. You have to have a perfect record to obtain the permit. I know drivers that would try to get a ticket so they would lose there permit. I've also pulled triples between Salt Lake City and Portland. No extra permits needed for that area. Just need a sign on rear pup saying "Long Load"

 

Which state requires the "Long Load" signs? I know Utah doesn't, neither does Arizona or Nevada.
Just as a side note here, unless the law has changed, the 30 mile stretch of I-15 that runs through Arizona, is the ONLY highway in Arizona where triples are allowed.

 

And what a section of highway that is! Ironic that all that flat expanse of I-10 is verboten.

I've been a rider in a cab pulling doubles in snow in the mountains. That would be enough for me.

 

Politics at it's finest! Since both Utah and Nevada allow them, that 30 mile stretch of road cost a lot of trucking companies big bucks! It'd be interesting to know who's palm's were greased, who did the greasing, and how much it was...
