    Update:

Here in One Trick Pony (aka "Alberta") the oil industry is freeing thousands of truck drivers to pursue other opportunities (like unemployment). These newly available truck drivers will have a ripple effect across Canada. So where are the Temporary Foreign Worker truck drivers now that we have even more Canadian truck drivers not working as truck drivers than usual? The Temporary Foreign Worker truck drivers are still here, with more on the way! As if wages weren't bad enough to begin with, trucking company owners are using this opportunity to drive down wages with Temporary Foreign Workers! I'm not sure if trucking could be any more ridiculous.

I've heard from some AYR drivers that they are pretty happy. Out of NB.

    CBC: TFW's in the Maritimes

"Picard estimates 80 per cent of trucking companies in Atlantic Canada use the program."

    Failed State.

Its because all them East Coasters are up in The Mac b'y! When I used to work for Big Eagle up there, 3 of us mechanics were from out west and pretty much every one else working there was from the East Coast. Most of them claimed they made better money working for a low paying scab outfit like Big Eagle than they would have out east.

To be more precise, if you are a trucking company in the maritimes (highest unemployment in Canada) you cook up a fake LMO and displace Canadians with TFW's. Truck drivers in the maritimes then flee the maritime TFW's to Alberta only to be replaced by more TFW's in Alberta (which is still using fake LMO's to employ TFW's despite thousands of Canadian truck drivers recently being laid off in Alberta).

So truck drivers are fleeing the globalization of truck drivers wages thanks to the Government of Canada which is complicit with lying trucking company owners who are on a mad race to the absolute bottom, which would be the country with the lowest truck driver wages, Sierra Leone. The minimum-wage in Sierra Leone is three cents an hour. So eventually a truck driver in Vancouver (where a house costs a million dollars) will be earning three cents an hour and will be forced to flee to Saint John, New Brunswick only to be replaced by a TFW in New Brunswick because the New Brunswick trucking company owner cooked up a fake LMO and hired some Filipino truck drivers (with typically fake Filipino qualifications) who are more compliant than Canadian truck drivers because the trucking company owner can threaten the Filipinos with deportation.

Trucking company owners would prefer slavery but the TFW Program is the next best thing!

And the Filipino TFW killed a Canadian family in a minivan because he did not know that snow is slippery.

What some companies do is write a really nice Kijiji ad and post it in another province. They get almost no replies and use that as proof the job cannot be filled locally. I just heard of one Manitoba carrier that pays it's TFW's 20 cents a mile. They are mostly German or Russian immigrants with little or no experience. They are treated like slaves. Some of these carriers even have mechanics that are TFW's. These are not real mechanics ! I am almost tempted to post the name of the carrier!

If it really is TransX then no wonder they have to recruit elsewhere. No one wants to live in Winterpeg lol.

Here I go on another rant.....

How much money has been spent to engineer trucks that anybody can drive, all of this comes at the request of the major carriers because they cant find drivers. Rather than putting that money into the hands off experienced professional drivers.

There are currently more commercial CDL holders than there are available seats so NO...there is no shortage of drivers.

There is however a shortage of drivers willing to give there time away for free.

I can remember a time when drivers wage and a cop or firefighter were in the same ballpark, now we are a good 35000 behind.

When the industry deregulated to appease the big shippers the downfall in drivers wages began.

Until the drivers take a true stand this will continue whether it be the TFW program or whatever hairbrained program they can come up with to the wages down.
