No,it wasn't you. It was IC.
I'm finding that this "fronted" thing is so incredibly unknown, that I wonder if it is a new rule that Estes came up with lately.
About 3 years or so ago there was a driver who put in for two weeks vacation. Then, once it was approved,he dropped his two weeks notice.
His son-in-law still works there. I even talked to him days before I left. Nothing was ever mentioned about this "fronted" thing.
You are the first guy who has clarified it,Spyder.
I wish I had requested an employee handbook for this year, but they were always unheard of unless you were new.
I can still get one, possibly. I wonder if the "fronted time off" thing is in there.
14 cent paycheck??

Actually,if someone even sounded serious about starting a union, management would call Central Office and the suits would arrive from Virginia.
They would show us anti-Union movies and tell us to talk to them if we feel something is unjust.
This whole "fronted" thing must have been in one of those long-winded forms they would have us sign now and then.
You know... The form that's all fine print and word-salad. I'd need an attorney next to me to decipher it. ...and no... You can't have a copy and can't take it with you to read over. -
Never sign anything that you can't keep a copy of. Nothing to do about it now, but moving forward id try to keep from repeating that mistake.

My company fronts the vacation it's more clearly explained like this... I get 3 weeks off a year, but I can use whenever I want! I actually earn 120 hours divide that by 8 hour work day and you get 15 days. So divide 15 by 12 months and I earn 1.25 days a month. So I take all my vacation hours say in June. Then I quit my job the end of October, I have not worked Nov or dec so I did not earn 1.25+1.25= 2.5 days of vacation so I owe my company back 20 hours

This is just one more reason I'll never work for a big company. Just about every time in my life I've ever had to sign papers with a bunch of fine print, there was always some unpleasant surprise waiting. If a company says it gives 2 weeks paid vacation per year, I'm gonna expect an honest-to-goodness 2 weeks paid vacation. Not a bank loan that I have to pay back if I don't work for them for certain amount of time (to be decided by them, of course) AFTER the vacation.
You look a man in the eye, you come to an agreement, and you shake hands. Ain't no fine print needed.speedyk, diesel drinker and Dockworker. Thank this. -
Amen!
One way to avoid getting a $0 last paycheck is to quit on your anniversary date or not take any paid time off.
Say your anniversary is Jan 1,and in March you take 40 hours (5 days) off.
Then you give your 2-weeks notice 2 weeks before your Anniversary. Your last check will have that 40 hours taken out.Last edited: Aug 27, 2016

That's crazy! I'm an employer as as well. We run a small company ,Towing Alexandria VA and I just couldn't imagine doing an employee like that. I agree with Dockworker, its definitely a contract stipulation that is in favor of the company rather than the employee. Good thing your making making a move! Like you sad though, no need to complain, just keep it movin!

If someone tells you "No" just say ok I need to read it again. When you get it in your hands, tear it up. I don't care what that doc says or is, tear it up if you are refused a copy.Fatboy42 Thanks this.
