I've had a class C since '99 (yeah, I'm young blood)... got a Class A last year (2015), three weeks from permit to licensure - still had to tool around with a trainer for two months. Makes sense. An 80k lb rig is a different beast.

You should apply there to be their safety man.TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this.

You may have another hurdle with a blank MVR.

Blank is a clean slate
I might not get the best job but it will pay more then competing with freelancers in India
I don't really know people in the industry anymore, but if the firemen I drove for in Chicago when I ran steel, haven't retired yet, there might be something there.UsualSuspect Thanks this. -
That's kinda funny. They take drivers that nobody else wants but I do here about any incidents with them.Last edited: Aug 28, 2016
Chinatown Thanks this. -
There is a difference between a clean slate and no track record.
Good Luck! I hope it works out for you. -
I TX you can get your permit in the morning and take the driving test in the afternoon. All you need to do is find a truck to test in.

It probably isn't goinbgn to matter if you can test or not. Most companies are going to concider you a newbie, with that long a lapse, and require at least a refresher course. I'd recommend saving yourself some grief, and go ahead and go to a good accredited driving school. Get the paper and the license there. You are, in essence, starting out just like any new driver. I know you can drive, and have driven, and you know you can drive.....but Great West Casuality or any other insurance company is going to balk at you without, at least, recent training.
