India is responsible for sending People to Arkansas to take MY future IT position. At that point I knew my own position in college was untenable and not worth purusing. So I cut my losses and got the hell out. It's stupid how they can come all the way here on a work visa and get away with making sure my overpaid intern ### will never see that same position given to them. /sarc...
With that said, trying to get back on thread topic... Arkansas has no issues giving a CDL Learners if that is what you are going to do. I came to Arkansas with a Maryland CDL almost 20 years ago and they rubber stamped me across with just a written and eye exam on the spot at the revenuer.
I later turned in my CDL at 2013 due to spiritual warfare over a future call up regarding Tier Two Service should we as a Nation lose a city or three to nuclear strikes. Tier Two in Arkansas means Im not elgible for commerce of any kind but am up to call for hauling mortuary. Since reefer trucks hauling a few hundred dead look just like a food truck to be pillaged I choose not to deal with that.

Do you still have your old expired license? If so, some states might let you just walk in and renew your license with that state as long as you have an address in that state.
Escapees RV Club can set you up with a legal address in Texas.
Some states you can just rent a cheap room and use that as your address.
Las Vegas you can have summertime year round.
Do some Google searches and find which states are easiest to get a license.
Start with states that have no personal income taxes; this is for your own benefit when you start trucking and want to keep more of your paycheck.
- Alaska
- Florida
- Nevada
- South Dakota
- Texas
- Washington
- Wyoming
* Tennessee
* New Hampshire

MrEd Thanks this. -
It seems some are misunderstanding my request. I have funds to take a CDL course at the local community college, but I need a valid drivers license for driving a car to attend. Some of the responses seem to assume I will CDL test, I won't, I just need to test and receive a valid license for an auto. I cannot prove having a previous license as MO has already expunged my records.
I know I gave a smart-### answer about working, I realize I will get work like any other newbie, I just have a little more experience, and know what to expect from OTR. I prefer to stay out months at a time. If I never see home, I am fine with it, I am that special type of loner that thrives on solitude. -
Quick perusal of the licensing laws here seems to indicate that 6 months to a year with a learners permit is standard, with some states having requirements for formal Drivers Ed also.
I didn't read all the detail though, and if one looks promising, call the State.

Attending a CDL School to get a auto license is overkill.
That throws my mind into a tail spin just thinking of it. If you go to school for CDL, you are going to end up with a CDL. You can then drive anything except buses and motorcycles etc. (Bus = passenger endorsement backed by further and more strict certification for school buses)
Anyone can walk into a revenuer to get a car license, usually need a car for the test and a written plus sight.
Remembering from yesterday I failed to explain that Arkansas does not have limitations like SC and some other states do... my spouse passed her CDL tests and was upgraded from car license straight to full Tier One CDL with a few endorsements and was hauling with me out of Texas the next day. The states that impose permit and time restrictions on CDL People trying to get started in life as Truckers are unnecessarily hurting these people. That should stop. Either that or move to a free state without restrictions of that kind. -
Arkansas does require a learner's permit for 6 months before a license will be issued. Most states are between six months and one year with that requirement. It's a part of the graduated driver's license programs at they all went to a number of years back.x1Heavy Thanks this.

Ok Thank you. Im unaware of the graduated requirements.
I guess we are the lucky generation to walk up and pick up a license for whatever back in the day and have at it the same day.KMac Thanks this.
