It is a setting for your WiFi connection that you need to set in Windows 10.
Set 'Metered Connection' to On.
It is in the Advanced settings.
When that is set to ON, no updates will be downloaded unless you initiate it. -
Oh, and I am on a family plan with T-Mobile.
I have a hotspot device for my laptop. 20GB of data costs me $40 per month.
And streaming Netflix and the like does not eat into that. -
Verizon has the best service. None of the others are even close (I have used Sprint, ATT, and Verizon). If you're planning on using things like netflix, you'll burn your data quick.
-
I use Verizon and have grandfathered in unlimited data. I read an article recently saying that Verizon was forcing anyone that routinely uses over a 100 GB a month to either scale down their plan or have heir contract terminated. They are getting very strict and I don't like it.
DustyRoad Thanks this. -
I got kicked off Sprint ! They claimed I was using too much data....on an unlimited data plan.
Other have been throttling bandwidth....making movies slow to stream....or not available in HD.
Verizon has been the most reliable in cab lte 4g coast to coast.crb Thanks this. -
I get 10 gigs fore $55 a month. That includes unlimited everything else theough straight talk.

@TROOPER to TRUCKER
I've got straight talk, its ok for light use, a percentage of the monthly plan is highspeed, once the limit is reached. its all slo mo, I'm looking for another service -
You can set your settings on netflix to a really slow bandwidth. It don't eat up much data and movie quality is still just as good on a laptop.
I had both sprint and verizon. I've never been threated by sprint. Sprint added 10,000 cells a couple years back. The coverage got better. And I'm over on the west coast. I had areas where i'm glad i had sprint cuz verizon didn't work. Towards the end of my OTR. The coverage that i got to see was about even between sprint and verizon. But verizon had the better speeds. Although, i never got a new phone to test the new sprint signal coverage. My new verizon phone however, got better coverage then the old verizon phone. While it was working like a champ.
It no longer works like a champ now. I've lost signal in certain areas in my home city. Although a tower is being worked on. I've got a little of it back.
All 4 carriers have improved on their coverage. Some posters on here have even said tmo has gotten better. I"m no longer OTR and have no plans to ever go back, so i'll never get to see the improvements. Other then what i saw already.
Coverage has gotten a LOT better from Reno to Cheyenne. -
Just let my grandfathered plan go. It was a hard decision but I'm not using as much data anymore and they bumped the price up.
