I'm out of NY, and I run NY, PA, NJ, MD and a few stops in northern VA, for the most part. All day cabs, many runs are back within 14 hours.

I'm actually looking for something else that pays more, here in buffalo Sysco us foods new Penn, holland are all hiring.

It's just risky to make a jump. My wife is due in November. So I don't wanna go somewhere and start all over. I already have three guys under me here on seniority.

These companies (Frito-Lay, Pepsi, UPS, etc) typically hire individuals whom have been OTR or trucking for 3-5+ years, or is it possible to get into one of these companies with less experience (at lower percentage pay) and work your way from the bottom up?

They'll definitely hire someone with no experience, I started at Coke when I was 17 years old. When I turned 18 they started training me for my CDL. Great way to get experience, if you live near a union facility you can start making decent money from day 1. I did start in the warehouse, but it was only a few months until they asked me to learn to drive. Granted, that was 26 years ago, but I believe they still have opportunities like this now. Just be advised that it's an EXTREMELY physical job until you get some seniority, then it's a cakewalk.

extremely physical aye? there aint a job exists on this earth more physical than what I been through working for labor finder. :p I've furnished entire college dormatory buildings with prebuilt furniture within an 8hr shift. I've worked 10hr days clearing water retention basin ponds of bamboo & trees walking up and down a 130 degree bank in 100 degree weather with nothing but a pair of work gloves and a hatchet. I've unloaded truckloads of exercise equipment for new gyms with my bare hands. Carried 200lb school classroom cabinetry boxes over my back up 3 flights of stairs, and I'm under 5'6. I've moved mountains of dirt with shovel & barrow. Lifted 270lb 50in old box style TVs onto conveyor belts for 8hrs a day. I've hand carried woodwork wall trim boxes from a drop site to every condo in the cul-de-sac in a new building project.

ALL for 9.15 an hour!!! lol. I'll tell you, even if it's as physical as what I've done the past 2-3 years, these dock work jobs sound like candy mountain, considering the pay difference. lol.

The Frito Lay location I work for typically only hires experienced drivers...I haven't heard of anyone with less than 3 years getting hired recently. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened, or that other locations do the same.

At any rate, you're going to feel like you found a money tree if you're doing that kind of work at that low rate now. I think UPS dock workers here start north of $19/hour.

That's what everyone says! Till they try it. Lol. The majority of them give it it up the 1st week (usually sooner). True story.

when it comes to labor I have the mental fortitude of a stud being tasered while getting it on. Either that or I'm just plain stupid. I'd like to think I'm a healthy mix of the two. But I'll be honest I routinely work spring/summer/fall and take winters off. I like to work on myself mentally. I can spend months researching philosophy or psychology. & I've had that opportunity. My father left my mother a large home & it's been comfortable here. But I'm definitely growing out of it. At any rate, it's definitely time for me to wise up & make myself a living outside of this home. I'll be getting my CDL soon enough. sooon enough. Put down the shovel n pick up the wheel. :) They can pay me 3 cents a mile for training, as long as it gets me out of this ####ing house. Been living hard, hard living. lol.

If you can't get on with coke or Pepsi you might try the beer companies. Where I am at coke and Pepsi are union and it's harder to snag a job with them but bud and coors always has now hiring signs out front. Might not be that way in your next of the woods but it's worth a shot.
