In most states, an employer has a right to withhold an employee's final check up to 45 days, in case there are monies owed such as advances, etc...
That being said; these employers KNOW if there are monies owed or not, and are just being pricks because they can.

If you quit for some petty reason and cause a company to have a service failure, they may have to hold the final paycheck to determine if a chargeback is appropriate.
Signing paperwork at orientation without actually reading it can cause many of these frivolous complaints. You whine about something a company does, yet the procedure is written in black and white with your signature on the page.

God I wish we could go back to those old days. No reset 34 reset, no stupid does nothing for safety, 30 minute break, and all the other stupid unnecessary laws and rules that have come out in the past 25 years. And a lot fewer New Breed steering wheel holders.

There are a few "ol skool" drivers who are responsible for the current state of the trucking industry as well.
As I mentioned elsewhere back then the Feds weren't watching over us like a hawk like they are today. Running 3-4 logbooks, driving while tired(and popping pills to stay awake),LEAVING URINE BOTTLES ALL OVER THE PLACE(you know who you jack holes are),playing super trucker flying 50 mph on an exit ramp when you should be only doing 25 mph, usually wrecking in the process, the list goes on and on about why there are so many restrictions in our line of work, and some of the old hands are partly to blame. And we wonder why in some areas there are restrictions and/or prohibitions on trucks in certain areas of the country(North Carolina anyone?).

I live in NC and constantly drive through, and in there all the time. What restrictions/prohibitions are you speaking of? I for one haven't noticed anything different than any other State. Actually, they're probably more relaxed than most States.

The piss bottles being used is not from the " old days" . We used to pull over on the side of the road and water the tires. I think they became popular with the standup sleeper. Using the bottle would be difficult in a cabover or coffin sleeper.
Running multiple log books was necessary because we all have different levels of stamina. Some days I would drive 800 miles some only 500-600. It depended on how I felt that day.

In particular along the entire I-77 corridor, from the VA/N.C. state line to the N.C./S.C. state line(N.C. Highway Patrol sent notices out to the trucking companies awhile back-no parking on shoulders,on-ramps,or off-ramps,even in rest areas). And they've been enforcing it too, just about every time I've gone down that interstate if there are trucks parked as such, they've been cited. There aren't that many truck stops along that route. From my understanding a vineyard owner along that interstate got sick and tired of trucks parking near his property. Said vineyard owner also happened to be a personal friend of North Carolina's current governor, which is how the ordinance came about.
