Get an accident report from police department.
I was rear ended about 14 months ago in 3 vehicle collision at red light.
I was given info by the cop to get a copy. I was given a website and that police department emailed me accident info.

I don't see what THEIR gripe would be. It isn't THEIR trailer, and unless the freight was damaged, it's none of their #### business if you get the trailer repaired BEFORE or AFTER unloading. Repairing an empty trailer is easier...can SEE the inside (cracked floor boards?) and GET to everything that might need fixing if the freight isn't in the way. Not to mention, what if while torching broken pieces off or welding new pieces on, the trailer catches fire? Even if it doesn't go up in flames, there might be some smoke generated that could (depending upon what you were hauling) damage the freight. That's not even bringing up the fact that it might take days or weeks to have the needed parts fabricated or shipped...are they really wanting to wait THAT LONG for their stufff?
Usually best to unload first, as long as the trailer is structurally sound enough to do so. -
I believe the FMCSA recently proposed/put into action a two experiment allowing carriers to request certain non-preventable accidents be removed from their safety records. There are certain types of crashes that are eligible for review but the other party must be convicted of an offense. I do recall that a rear end accident was one of the eligible accidents. Good
Luck. -
Maybe you and your trainer should go see a doctor anyway, and sue em.
I like that trailer. It's an old USA Truck trailer purchased by a trailer leasing company, and then rented out. I wonder if anyone has done any maintenance on it? It may not have had any brakes.Boattlebot Thanks this. -
If a trailer lost brakes, it implies it may have also lost service air. In any case everything is destroyed back there and I don't mind to pick through the forensic to find the root case of a service failure to the trailer brakes. Assumption being the red side line is still pressurized. If you mash the foot brake to stop right now because you are fixing to ram a truck in front, those tractor brakes will do very well. Hm.... maybe that is why those tandems broke loose. Nothing doing to hold them back there.
