...Your right, they are a nice company to drive for...I didnt enjoy pulling a reefer, the LONG dead(s) head with no pay (i.e. 500 miles without pay to pull a load 1,000 miles), and this was the killer..Wil-Trans runs mainly to the northeast..They are on Prime's system and since Prime is mostly Team freight, they pull MOST of the loads going west...No toll reimbursement, high fuel prices and running Pa. and NY constantly was to much..Oh yeah, Lol, if you lease and you do not complete the contract there is a termination fee of $650.00..Good Luck

 

Hey Jag were you an L/O or company driver? Curious because I just started the ball rolling with them, gonna go company. You gave me a few things to ask about with your post. I live in Philly so I don't really care about running out here but if they're not reimbursing for tolls and such for company drivers that will be a deal breaker for me.

 

My husband has been with them for about 6 months now and he gets reimbursed for his tolls everytime. Matter of fact they have somekind of prepass thing that pays most of them for him. Also he has only had one long dead head run and got paid for it! He gets paid for every dispatched mile. The thing is my husband is constantly running back and forth accross the country. He's a company driver and he loves them. Jaguar is obviously an O/O, so his view point may be accurate from that perspective. But if you're going to be a company driver it is not like that.

 

Can someone'. give me information! on Will-Trans CDL Entry Program.
Do? they really put time in'to help the student make it!. Thanks

Mike's Chick thank you for the reply, I talked to Randy in recruiting today and ran my questions by him and you are correct indeed. They pay tolls or have ez pass for company drivers. I also asked about inverters, most trucks have them and their '07 trucks have APU's and the 06's are being traded in for '09's and they will all have an APU. Deadhead miles are paid in fact he says all dispatched miles are paid. Asked about miles realistically I figured 2500 or so he says should be around 2800. Do you have any info on the benefits, he just went over what they offer nothing much more. The one thing about my current job is I have excellent medical and hate to give it up, can you offer any details? Thanks...Al

 

We haven't considered buying medical through them yet. We were a very low income family not to long ago. We've never had any kind of insurance other than car insurance. Anyway, when Mike left to get his training we lived on our tax return. It was just recently that Mike started getting really good paychecks. Now he is the trainer instead of the trainee. So we are going to be looking into the insurance soon. Make sure you understand the pay scale before you go. You'll need to live off of somekind of savings. You don't get paid until you start on the road, after you finish the cdl school.

The cdl school is awesome. Mike was a pretty quick study, but he told me about some of the other people that he met there. He met a lady who was from the class before his because she needed more time. So they let her stay until she was ready. He said that all of the instructors are very patient and willing to work with you. They make you pass their tests before sending you to DOT. That way you're ready when you go.

Food (lunch) and lodging are provided. It will come out of your pay, about 25 a week. They reimburse you for the permit fee, if you had to pay one. They are all really nice people. They even sent me 2 dozen roses after Mike finished school. It had a little card that said welcome to the Wil-trans family. I actually got a call from Connie before Mike even left from school. She said that they like to make sure that the wife is ok with everything ahead of time. She said if i ever want to ask her something i can just call. I spent an hour on the phone with her! It's nice to know they actually take the time answer all of your questions.

I already have my CDL just haven't been OTR in about 10 yrs or so and I'm looking to go back. It sounds like when I get there they'll give me a driving test to see how I do, I should be ok, might be a little rusty on double clutching but driving and backing should be ok. If it goes ok I only need to go out for 30-60 days with a trainer and I owe them nothing for it which would be cool but if I need to go through the longer process that's ok too. Right now looking at Oct.13th to start. I understand about not having insurance, I went 8 or 9 years without it until I took my current job that's why I'm a little leery about losing it. What kind of miles is Mike getting? Randy told me they aim for 2800 or so for co. drivers said the pay is .34-.38 cpm, is that about right? Thanks...Al

 

Miles haven't been a problem at all. You should be able to count on getting at least 2500 a week if you're driving team, i would say 2800 per driver is a really good week. Mike's last check was right around $1000.00 and this week should be even more! He's getting .32 a mile as long as he has a trainee. He gets paid not only the miles he drives, but the trainee's also! Otherwise it would be less.

I mentioned all of the school stuff for cruzer.

There have been a few people that Mike knows who came in with cdl's. He said they tested and went through a refresher course and then were on there way.
