my logbook violation...question

The Rulebook for FMSCA does not specify a street address, it doesn't state what should be exactly listed. It just says Main address. On my bills, I send to the full address I ahve, because I have it. However, you don't need to have that full address for many, many businesses. Calling the secretary who gives you a flip of the coin answer doesnt help your case much either. Either they have the correct answer, or they don't...and telling you its better to be safe than sorry is a 'wtf, like Im supposed to know, or care?' answer.

First off it wasn't a secretary who answers the calls at the rules and regulations part of the FMCSA. That's just stupid to say so. I've already said it's a judgement call on the inspector. But I understand that you might want to be the type that wants to argue issues and that's ok too. If you believe that all the regulations are cut and dry then you're in for a big surprise. If you think you'll get the same answer from any government organization then you just do not know.

I choose to be on the safe side and in doing so I have never been hit on any violations in my 20 + years of driving. That's not saying I've been perfect it just says I haven't been caught with any hits. Now I've repeated myself more than twice with you on this subject and there's no end. So please take your arguement with others for I am done with you on this subject.

    Bah...quitting is for...quitters. Besides...Im right and you're wrong.

Heres the problem. Your eventual answer from this apparent non secretary was "better be safe than sorry?" That seriously is just another way of saying "I dunno...put it on there just in case" just in case? do they Not have the answers themselves as far as what their regulations say? It is not specific in the regs so I dont know how one can get dinged for not having the full address compared to a city, state addy if they don't spell it out as far as what they exactly expect. I mean...seriously...do you go up to a lawmaker who just wrote a law and ask them a question about it and they tell you "I dunno?"

Well to counter that, in the past five months I've been driving, and the
51,000 miles I've driven, I havent been hit on any violations either pertaining to the city and state issue.

I am just going to copy the meaning of address

    Definition

    address
1 the number of the house and name of the road and town where a person lives or works and where letters can be sent:

You all judge from there! I am here to say address means a complete address!

I had a driver who didn't put anything for address and was inspected and they didn't say anything, however if he continues to not do it the officer that really knows the regs will write him up for it (could be you)

Yeah, yeah ... I know it's more than five months old.

I just happened to be reading this and read with some amusement the ping-ponging of "what is the proper form of an address?"

For your own piece of mind when faced with such a question (and no, I am not going to define "address" :biggrin_25523:), do what the lawyers do ... consult Black's Law Dictionary. Why Black's and not, say, the Oxford Concise Dictionary? Because the Supreme Court uses Black's and, ultimately, what is of concern is if the definition would stand up in a court challenge. There are some differences regarding the "common" definition and the "legal" definition of some words and terms.

    YMMV

OK I write my main office address in full. street, city, state, etc. However on my home terminal line I just write the words "SAME". Is that legal? I dont feel like writing it twice on the same page is all.

I'm with you, I chuckled as I went through this thread.

I'll bet that if you sent a driver to a new "address" to pickup or deliver & just gave them the name of the company & town as the "address" without a street address the driver would whine up a storm. :biggrin_25525:
