Then you open the door to the insurance making all sorts of caveats. Speeding=no payoff, heck who actually needs to ride a motorcycle=no payout, fishing from a boat without a life jacket=no payout.
The point is, if someone paid the premiums they get the insurance.

Smokers die quickly, the non smokers linger around forever going to the doctor for this and that, living like invalids with no memory in nursing homes and taking all that Social Security money. And they probably complained when SS was first started.

I was going to bring up your point of unhealthy living being a slow form of suicide, but I got off on my rant and forgot about it.

And then GM came out with their "wide track" cars! They really were "tuna boats" compared to today's cars. They were heavy and metal and withstood small "bumps and bruises," that would be thousands of dollars to repair in today's cars. But major crashes were not as survivable as today's are.

Sadly, there is nothing fair about life.

Most of us who have been around a lot of major trauma are damaged by it. Some to the point of full on PTSD.
OK, so then you'll have the irresponsible folks who rack up these huge medical bills declare bankruptcy. That in itself would drive health care costs up even more than they are now. And a lot of those bankruptcies would be followed up by welfare. So then taxes would skyrocket higher than they already are...
I can only think that your post was being ironic.

OK. I have life insurance. But if I die by murder, suicide, jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, drag racing, or as a result of war I'm not covered. I paid the premium but in those situation I won't get the payoff. Some of those scenarios I have no say in but I won't be covered either. If someone makes a poor choice I should not have to pay for their choice (decision). If you want to dance you gotta pay the fiddler. IMO opinion you can add "stupid" driving (texting, drunk, speeding) to the you play you pay scenario. That is part of why we are in the situation we have. Individuals no longer have to take responsibility for acts of indiscretion. There are already caveats in place so lets add some sensible caveats.

You have a point in your reference to my comment Big Don. So how do we fix stupid? I probably need to refrain from any further comments on this thread.

My life insurance covers me in all forms of death but war and taking part in a sanctioned racing event. You could choose another insurance plan. If my insurance policy costs me more for the same amount of coverage then that is taking responsibility. If yours doesn't, then your family won't be paid if you die by one of the events stated. That is also taking responsibility. So how is anyone not taking responsibility?

But what is stupid? I went skydiving once, I jumped out of a perfectly good plane and it was.....amazing! Some would say that is stupid but I say what's the point of living if you can't live once in a while.

@bigguns, I understand and appreciate your feelings, but someone is going to be picking up the bill, and you can bet that it won't be the individual who was being stupid, that will do it.
And as far as your life insurance goes, you can bet every insurance company there is, will make exception clauses for their own benefit. I'd be surprised if even half of the "insured" folks ever have read and understand the policies of the insurance they pay for.
