We gals have an extra reason to need the loo, more than you guys. And if not enough fun already, my having live cargo w/ their male attendants (that you just met) create a whole set of dreaded situations with the "Is she stopping AGAIN??" & questioning.

I survived ulcerative colitis (surgically cured) only to enter peri-menopausal nightmares. I figure it'll all get easier once I'm to OLD to drive at all. But thanks for asking the question! A *best potty* market review is much needed! But if after diet & exercise doesn't help your IBS, see a doc.....there are some more serious causes you wouldn't want to let go too long.

i guess im going to bring this thread back to life!
ive had ulcerative colitis since i was 12 years old, im 35 now and let me tell you, trucking aint fun when during a flare up.
i cannot count how many times ive had to pull over on the highway and run into the woods.
is it embarasing? heck ya!! but, its a disease like any other it just happens to be the card some of us were dealt.
thankfully, with the meds im on now (remicade) every 6 weeks and some imodiums and iron my symptoms are more under control than years ago. but one of those porta potty things are 100% in my future.
ill be training with werner or western next week and my greatest fear is being on the road with someone i dont know in an area i dont know where the bathrooms are. but hey, if i gotta make em pull over so be it.

Well I'll tell ya'll one thing I learned recently that helped me immensely.
When I had my recent colonoscopy the Dr. found a bit of diverticulosis and said I should start using Metamucil, I'm 57 and hadn't really thought of it like a lot of other things that are "old people" things in my mind.
I am getting older I guess so it's time to consider that my body is going through age related changes.
Anyway I had been dealing with IBS for a while and when I started on the Metamucil once a day in the morning within a few days I was so regular you could set your watch by it lol.
No more struggling to go and can't, no more panic when I suddenly have to go and don't have a place to go.
It's rare now that I have any problems, quite a relief and so simple to do.

Handle IBS: use Fenugreek, inulin, isomaltulose and multi-probiotics....heavy, heavy, heavy amounts. If, i was home, i would only add litely saute minced garlic cloves (1/2 cup) cooked under a low heat in extra virgin coconut oil.

I'm learning that IBS can be completely reversed by diet. Check out "Wheat Belly for Total Health" by William Davis. I'm reading it right now, and am becoming a believer.

Disclaimer: I have no financial or otherwise interest in William Davis or "Wheat Belly." I am simply a former driver who had to deal with occasional bouts of IBS while on the road.

i was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis yesterday during an er visit. i had pains in my stomach so bad i thought my appendix was going to burst so went to the er only to find out i have UC and it was badly inflamed. they said they could tell i've had it for a long time from the scans and that the inflamation came from a change in diet. that made alot of sense considering i ate a nothing but fat free yogurt for a week prior thinking i was eatign healthy. oddly enough over the years i've gotten used to the loose stool and having little notice when i need to go, i got into making myself go multiple times when i first wake up and they i usually only have to go once at most later in the day. the part that is bothering me is the pain, nasea, and loss of confidence. im so sick to my stomach right now that i feel like its a horrible idea to climb in the truck. i dont have the option of not driving on bad days though.

im hoping that after this inflamation passes i can go back to life as usuall and just avoid dairy foods.

This must be a serious issue for drivers because of all the illnesses that exit DOT saw fit to include, for many years, a question regarding ulcerative colitis on the physical long form.
