i need to ask a question!

To be honest let me premis this by first stating, that I have better credit than common sense! I bought the truck and the 53' high boy spring axle, hauled a bit for friends and colleges, unrelated to the industry in any way.

This week I fielded a call from someone who deals in scrap, asked me to do a run a few hours away and pick up some drill pipe and rotors, some sucker rod, so I went. Loaded late, thankfully the scales were closed cause when I got to the scrap yard they weighed me, and I was carting 45 ton! Thought it was heavy, but no idea how much, they let me run again, and the time I stopped the load earlier thinking I had a handle on it this time, got to the scrap yard, this time it's 25 ton!!

I'm lost! Do I buy the wireless scale?! Or just keep guessing till I get it figured!!

Are they paying you per ton? If they are, maybe you should find a route that bypasses those scales!

But really, no clue man, I'm replying to get alerts to see the answers

They are paying by the ton, however finding out I allegedly ran illegal wasn't a good first impression!!

A suspension pressure gauge if you're running air ride could work.

If you have airbags on your tractor you could get a built in scale. I can usually judge my weight based off my drive axle weights and where my trailer tandems are. Would work even better if your trailer had fixed axles.
There are a few different brands like "loadscale" or "Right Weigh" That make them.

    45 ton net?

How could you not tell you were running ~43,500 lbs overweight? I can tell the difference when the trailer axles are over by a few thousand driving from the loading area to the scale.

If you are loading bulk product, you need either access to a scale on site, very close by, or must invest in an air-suspension/gauge system. Properly calibrated, and you can tell just when you are maxed out with a quick glance on level ground.

It will be thousands of dollars cheaper than "guessing" and getting nailed at a coop 20 tons overweight.

I'm thinking your right, I need to find a system that can actually measure my weight per group before I'm pulling a rickshaw!!

A pressure gauge on the truck is easy cheap and accurate as can be to measure drive weight. With the trailer being spring ride it won't be easy or cheap to get a system for it.

I have pulled spring ride hoppers before, and just used a gauge on the truck suspension. Always started loading in the same place of the front hopper pulled up as necessary to keep from over flowing. Gauge got to 50 pull up to the back then back up as necessary, to 60. Worked really well. With the air ride trailers when I'm done loading the truck and trailer both read 60 she is 12/34/34. I always leave my 5th wheel in the same spot. Not sure if that would work for your situation.

You could get the same digital scales that they use on log trucks for that spring ride trailer. I don't know the brand name but I know they all have them around here.
