In so much as this is an all round bad proposal, I'd be surprised if it actually passes.....For starters, there'd be too much potential loss of fine revenue.....Add to that the problem of neutered trucks trying to pass each other, for miles and miles, plugging up the lanes....Then what you'll have is 4 wheelers jockeying for position, cutting in & out, cutting each other off, and passing on the right shoulder....Yep, I can see it now, some clown in a mini-cooper trying to scoot from lane to lane under a slow 53'.....Maybe they'll make up for the lost fine revenue by writing trucks for "improper lane usage" or "impeding traffic"...I'll think I'll just sit back and watch the show......
Speed limiters......

well what do you do and the guy behind you do if your doing 70 and get cut off?
Sorry about my previous comment, I removed part of my post and should have taken that out also but I missed it. This what i was originally saying.
We argued like crazy that speed limiters weren't a good idea because of the exact same reasons that are being used again and we were countered with responses like "If everyone is going the same speed there would be no reason to pass"...
I don't like speed limiters. I think the owner of the truck should have the choice of how they run their business, operating speed is part of that. I think the best speed control is seating in the seat when properly trained...
I am showing you what you are facing.. This angle of argument is not going to work.. I have herd it before.. Those in favor of it slap it with the false labels "for safety" and "good for the enviroment" and when the truckers argue against it, automaticly those trucker want to speed and drive recklessly.. that is the general public's instant reaction.. -
I agree with you. But to politicians, needing more trucks is good. More tax revenue. And if we need 500,000 more trucks, some politician will claim he helped create a half million jobs.

Again in Ontario part of the excuse for why the speed limiter was a good idea. It will reduce the number speeding violations for truckers..
I don't remember the exact numbers now but I believe 90 or 95% of speeding fines for trucks where written on secondary highways and roads and in town limits where the speed limiter at 105 km/ (65 mp/h) would have no impact aside from possibly reducing the severity of the infraction. -
If you want proof of what happens when everybody is artificially limited to the same speed, look at what happens every time NASCAR runs through Daytona and Talladega.
When you catch somebody running slightly slower, you have a choice. 1) back off and match their speed maintaining a safe following distance (which, if everyone did this eventually everybody would be running as slow as the slowest trucks on the road); 2) pull out to pass LOOOOOONG before you actually "catch" the slower truck in order to maintain a safe following distance (which thoroughly ticks off EVERYONE around you, leading them to zip past on the right, squeezing through across your nose); or 3) wait to pull out into the passing lane until you are dangerously close to the slower truck.
So, you end up with a line of slow trucks each trying to get close enough to the slow truck in front of them to pull out and attempt a pass...and then something happens up ahead and we get the "big one".
MY truck will not be governed.DrFlush, 1johnb, Lone Ranger 13 and 4 others Thank this. -
That's exactly what its like pedigreed. Daytona two abreast at 65 mph putting lives at risk

Neighbor stopped over to BS, I told him about this proposal. Before I mentioned any examples of the possible effects of this, he said, "this will clog the roads" !
He is not a driver, has never been a driver, and has no interest in being a driver.
If only common sense was more common.Lone Ranger 13, thejackal, BoostedTeg and 1 other person Thank this. -
If sense was common, everyone would have it.fordconvert Thanks this.

Heck, it used to be called 'common's sense'.

In a 2015 decision, The supreme court of Canada admitted that the Ontario Ministry of Transportation violated truck driver Gene Michaud's charter of rights because limiting his speed to 65 mph puts him at risk. BUT the judge decided that the safety of the four wheelers and reduced emissions were more important than the safety of the truck driver.
You can prove your case, be right and still they don't care. Crock of ####.
