New grad here and after A LOT of research into various companies I decided to go with McElroy..... Obviously they have a pretty solid reputation especially for a company to get ur feet wet with.... So cut to the chase... Attending orientation in mt pleasent NC... This is their small satellite terminal... Anyways I am pretty frustrated... 1st week of orientation was really a try out it seemed... Which is expected... Had to pass driving test. About a dozen paper tests and of course backgroud, drug.. Dot checks... Well after getting through week 1 I thought I was pretty much golden... Just gonna get some training and time under my belt and on to my own truck I go.... Wrong! Instructor really has no desire to train at all... He showed me 3 backs Serpentine, parrerell, and 45... None I had done in cdl school... Showed us 1 time... Gets in truck and leaves me by myself in the yard to figure it out.. Then next day takes me in first loaded ride in a beat to #### truck , doing 3 hours of homework a night... Atmosphere is basically one of stress and feeling stupid.. 2nd day pretty much had to beg him to help with backs... Guy is yelling and getting irritated... I'm new in this industry and I have to say... A lot of the instructors I have had in cdl school and now McElroy r just ########.... And I'm just about sick of it. I assume many veteran truckers take pride in their wrk because it is a skill not a job for a slob like the general public may perceive... Yet many prideful truck drivers act as if u should pick up on things as if this was basic arithmetic.... This post is me blowing off steam.. And for anyone coming to mt pleasent... Be prepared... Orientation is not pleasent here

I went to mt pleasant for McElroy and have to say that orientation isn't where you learn to back or drive. They show you what is needed to pass driving test and let you practice for hours, they are not there to teach you things you should've learned before passing your cdl test. McElroy is not a teaching company like swift or others, they are a flatbed company who expects you to know how to handle the truck but will teach you securement.

It is a great company, i hope you make it through orientation to be able to appreciate what a good company they are.
    Goodluck driver

Well that's probably true Cruising along... However I feel its unfair to send a recruiter to my school and take me on if the company is not set up to wrk with new drivers like myself... Training who varies greatly by school... I went to a school who was a contractor for swift .. All my classmates getting paid by swift to be their and we learned in swift trucks... They r all out on the road with a mentor... I'm here #####ing on this forum... I hate feeling like bum who can't get it together... But really my school taught just enough to get this cdl... I'm far from a driver. I'm gonna stick it out here.. Sure ill be alright... But I'm expecting a hard learning curve over the next few weeks... Thanks for the feedback

    Orientation always sucks
    Just remember it's not forever
I wanted to quit during an orientation 3 weeks ago, but didn't.
I'll drive 4 months then quit
After I've proved they're losing someone good.

I do wish you the best. When you are in your own truck making .50 a mile in a couple months, ask those swift guys what they are making cpm or gross pay per week or if they get every weekend off.

You'll learn more in your first week on the road than you could learn in 4 months of school and training
    Just get through the end
Any company you chose over swift is already a brilliant decision
    Be patient.
