Abilene Motor Express....A New Place To Call Home

Was hoping to be, but got a load to Lumberton out of Wytheville.

 

Its looking like henderson NV is my home for tonight.

Sitting in the truck here in Barstow. Just got out of the shower. Waiting on my trainer, who is getting her first shower in three days. (Because I cleverly paid out-of-pocket for the shower at the Petro in Reno, I only went two days between showers.)

Suddenly, a female appears! She tells me she's an Abilene truck driver and she's locked herself out of her truck, and wants to know if I can help with an extra key or some such.

Now, the thing is, I don't doubt her story. But I have no clue what I'm doing. I'm still a Stage 1 trainee, and I am risk-averse to boot. So I tell her that I am a Stage 1 trainee and I have no idea what I can do to help her. But my trainer will be out of the shower soon, and she can help. She says "Oh, Shirley's your trainer?" Yep.

So she says thanks, asks me to let Shirley know about her plight, and heads off to intercept Shirley at the showers.

A minute later, some guy in a car drives up. Gives me the eyeball. Then gets out of his car and tells me that he and his wife are Abilene drivers and apparently their dog locked 'em out, and can he borrow my key.

Again with the "I'm just a trainee, talk to my trainer, yadda yadda yadda." I feel kinda bad, because I'd like to help. But with only three weeks of Abilene employment under my belt and still in Stage 1, I'm not yet comfortable wandering off on my own with strange truck drivers without mmy trainer at least knowing about it.

Hopefully Shirley will be able to help them, and everyone will live happily ever after.

 

We pulled into Richmond about an hour ago. In the sleeper listening to the Garth Brooks concert on Satellite radio.

 

We're in 1542. KW with the "Don't Tread on Me" windshield screen. We're WAY past our bedtime, tho.
