He's just a friend. He gave me the money after i went to pick him up. Same day cash, paid of credit card immediately. There's no way i'd dish out 800$ not to get it returned. Some people could do that... some can't. I'd rather take a friend out of a bad situation... and have him pay me back (which was done right after he got out. he gave me 8 bills all shiny and crisp) Than have him rot in jail for a while.

Grand theft in 2014. Ouch! Definitely limits your opportunities if not eliminating them.

If it's just you, I would try an independent school and go flatbedding. More money to start usually

    M. Bjorn Petersen Transportation in Glendale,AZ might hire him. I understand he's not too picky.

"We move temperature controlled freight with no touch, no slip seating and very little delay or layover. At M. Bjorn Petersen Transportation you will have assigned equipment (both tractor and trailer) and pre-assigned loads. We will give you lots of miles as our main lanes are Arizona and California to the East Coast.
    M. Bjorn Petersen Transportation is a small family owned, DRIVER-FRIENDLY company. We know our drivers by name, so with us you are not just a truck number."

    Wait a minute.

I love these threads ... "My dad has a trucking company but can I find some where else to work"

Seriously start with your dad, work for him.

    Problems all solved.

I actually admire your loyalty to your friend, Zac
In your life, jobs will come and go
Good friends will be much more rare.
I hope you both make it

OP already said that he can't because of insurance requirements.

I know plenty of people who can't work for the family business because of insurance. Either age or experience required. It's sad really

I have a STRONG suspicion that someone is lying.
