DONT do the mirror arm long stud..JUNK...Get the mirror arm bracket that has 2 mount bolts like in the mirror arm itself..As for antenna, dont fall for the predators, wilson 2000 ect..As suggest a 6 ft top loaded fire stick or skip shooter(basically means a bunch of wire windings way up top of antenna) with the adjustable tip..For what you wanna use you dont need high end coax like the lmr 240 and such just rg8x is fine...Get your coax at a cb shop and ask then to test the ohm impedence to make sure it has no shorts in it..Should be 50 ohms..
The factory built in ant is not adjustable and is frieghtliner way to save fuel but still have a so called cb ant,pppffftttt...FL also did a antenna set up on back of sleeper wall, just as bad...AT best i have seen 2-4 miles with either one....With your own above set up you should easily double it.....I have not heard anything good or bad about effingham tunes but the majority of those shop just take your $$ and show you a big watt output but the radio is not much better than garbage..Sounds loud in a trk stop but has little range...
If your gonna run a radio you should bone up on some basics..
Start here..Hopefully you will learn..http://www.k0bg.com/

Just get a magnet mount Wilson and use that for now. You don't need super duper antenna on a rental.JReding Thanks this.

I have a Cascadia daycab with external antennas (factory), and a classic 29 with aftermarket Cobra M77 mic. Everyone says I transmit crystal clear, and I don't have any problems with reception.Last edited: Sep 9, 2016

Not all cascadias have fiberglass or aluminum roofs.wolverine11 Thanks this.

OK..I assumed they were all pretty much the same

I have a Bearcat 980 and it also has the diagnostic tests and in the owners manual it says if RF power diagnosis check is FAIL you should 1. Make sure antenna ground is good 2. Check for damage to antenna. 3. Make sure antenna connection on the back of radio is tight. I guess the same would apply to the 29LX, going to be difficult to check number 2 though since antenna is built in to truck.mmdavidson0128 Thanks this.

Cascadia daycab cabs are aluminium and sleeper trucks are plastic, therefore making the daycab have a good ground plane.
JReding Thanks this.
