Some drivers cut food expenses by turning their backs to the cashier at the truckstop and scarf down a couple of hotdogs.

I can see that happening in many truckstops in the midwest. Probably saw it as a kid, asking dad why there was someone eating hotdogs before paying. he said "He's going to pay for it at the cashier son". 2 minutes later you see him walking out the door with ketchup on his face.
Now i know the inside secret. You can't get blamed for what doesn't exist.

I've seen drivers sit at the counter or a table and order coffee. They then change tables and order a meal. When they check out, they give the cashier the coffee ticket only. To the untrained eye, one assumes they're paying for the meal.

I wouldn't rip off a restaurant because it hurts the waitresses. They depend on tips to survive. When someone steals a meal they also steal from the waitress.

Eating the food in a grocery store is called "grazing" and is legal, worst they can do is ask you to leave, give a trespass notice. It's not shoplifting until you walk out of the door with it.

    cleverest answer I've ever heard.
There are people out there with a heart. Imagine a trucker not being paid because his trailor went "misplaced" just like that meal ticket.

I can tell you when I was 21 coming home on military leave I stopped to have a beer a few miles from home with a girl I knew. I got hit by another car which sent my car thru the median and hit another car almost head on. It killed the Driver. I was NOT drunk .03 Bac It was after a year convicted of negligence homicide by use of a motor vehicle. (Failure to maintain control). I did a year went back to the military and got demoted but not discharged...since then I have had a Paramedic license, yes dispense controlled drugs, a USCG Masters license with TWIC card with Top Security Clearances and never been in trouble again. It's something I am sad/sorry that happened I think about it often. When I decided to go get my CDL no issues, I was asked about 5 years ago if I wanted to get a pardon. I said NO. My record and life speak for themselves. Millis did ask about it, hired. Now I am an IC at Schneider no questions asked. With a truck that's 40% paid off. Follow your dreams. If you are a quality person and want it you will succeed! Life deals a crappy hand sometimes, sometimes you pick the wrong cards. Good luck

I knew a Navy Admiral that was a good guy. Where he was, he ordered that all personnel getting out of the brig be sent to him before discharged. He offered them a second chance; "you can accept the bad discharge and go home now, or take go to sea duty on a ship for 2 years and if you do ok, then an honorable discharge or re-enlist at that time; you're choice." It was amazing how many chose the bad discharge.

Wow. So many stupid people out there. Having and being an Honorable Discharged Veteran is humbling and my most proudest achievement! Others gave way way more.

One of those was an E-6 that had been AWOL for something like 2 years. He had about 12 or 14 yrs. active duty. He was busted to E-1 and given 2 yrs. hard labor plus a bad discharge. He turned down the chance to redeem himself and said he's going back to Detroit and run the streets with his brother whom he claimed was a big shot gangster. Really stupid people in this society.
