    Nope I think it is one of the worst things that you can add to a radio.

    Most of the time people use too much echo. Makes it difficult to understand, Usually don't bother to engage in conversation with those, too much like work to figure out what they are saying. Same with over modulated radios, yes they are loud but if you can't understand them they are useless.

    Still have my 1st radio(29 classic)from 1995..It has an echo board and bumped up a wee bit..Used it not long ago for a few minutes and the sound is awsome..Needs a good cleaning though,static when you move the dials..Lil ruffed up so i am browseing for a new face plate..Ill keep that till i kick off..

    I decided to leave it stock. Sounds great with both Astatic 636 and Ranger SRA mics. I just get annoyed with the antenna LED. With my external meter in line, it doesn't ever light up. When I don't put the Radio Shack meter in line, it lights up on the higher channels with modulation, not dead key. Is it just too sensitive?

    Update RE: ant warning. My Cobra 29 lx doesn't mind the SWR, so I guess the 29 LTD SWR circuit is too sensitive.

    How do you know it doesnt mind it..??
    Try a different ext meter..

    Well I do normally use my RadioShack external meter. According to the external meter, the SWR is acceptable, but does get a little bit worse at the higher channels of the band. That would make sense as to why the cobra 29 LTD meter doesn't light up in the lower channels. And when it lights up, it is only intermittent with the modulation, which is not a way to measure SWR anyway. Dead key, no warnings ever. So it must be catching that the SWR is getting worse, but it's not bad enough to ruin anything. My cobra 29 LX doesn't even give a warning at all.

    Well just so you are aware a so called 1.0 is about the best you will ever see..So anything over that means its comming back into the radio..Up to 1.5 without alot of power is fine...If it climbs at all then i would start lookin for reasons why..
    Im just anal about gettin lowest possible but it makes lil difference again unless your running big power..

    You're right. And I agree that it should be low. Although I do not have a perfect match, it's generally around 1.5, which is fine for me. SWR is actually one of the least important measurements of an antenna. But CB operators get excited about it because it is the easiest to measure. But yes, definitely should be as low as possible.
