A rookie truck driver learned a costly lesson about making sharp turns in a big truck on Friday morning.

According to The Post Star, the driver was delivering a load of paper from Missouri to a nearby paper mill and hopped a curb while making a sharp left turn. The truck damaged the stonework around a veterans monument near Juckett Park. The truck stuck on the curb for several hours, snarling traffic in the area.

Police say the driver, Matthew Stevens, had been driving for about a week before the accident occurred. He works for Kansas-based TrasnAm Trucking.

Stevens was cited for failure to keep right. Police said that his company’s insurance will have to pay for the damage.


The incident occurred during the annual Sandy Hills Day celebration, a local event to celebrate the town’s founding.
