I am planning on getting into trucking after the New Year... That gives me some time to get my affairs in order.
I have a small hernia in my groin area right above my (mr happy) it's not painful I can bench 200 lbs in the gym and pick up 100 lbs off the floor with no pain. My doctor says not to worry with it until it becomes a hinderance.
Could this be an issue during a DOT physical? Any personal experiences or advice much appreciated.
Physical question...

I passed the DOT physical for years with a small hernia. I never mentioned it to the DOT doctor and the DOT doctors didn't ever mention it. Finally had it fixed because it started to bother me.
You'll need a physical for trucking school and that DOT card will be good for 2 years. After that go with a company that has driver "no-touch" freight. You can also go with a company that will accept your cdl school physical so won't require a new one.
Get a physical now from a certified DOT doctor and go from there.Cyoteugly Thanks this. -
I don't believe any kind of a hernia is a DOT disqualification. I'm too lazy to research this. However getting a physical now to avoid the one given at school next year might be a bit problematic depending on the school you go to. Last I heard schools like C1 will not allow you to start classes till you get the physical they provide the first day. Make some calls to the school you are thinking about going to and ask.

I had three incisions hernias, and 2 inguinale hernias repaired, have another individual one that popped up. Never had an issue with getting a card because of it. In fact it was the DOT Doc who pointed out my latest one. I have had two physical since. Nothing said.

have 2 partial hernias for yrs. not a DOT problem, maybe a company problem, if they ask if you can and will lift/carry 50-100lbs.

You will need a release letter from surgeon, saying that you are ok to drive, otherwise the medical card will be denied if the Dot doctor sees it
Toomanybikes and Cyoteugly Thank this. -

No it is not. A DOT Dr found my latest hernia during a physical 3 years ago. She issued my card. I have since had two other Physical from two other DOt physicians and had two more cards issued. Still have the hernia.Cyoteugly Thanks this.
