I am telling you, we went to get a medical card, DOT doctor said he won't issue a card, because there is a hernia present. Guy said his physician said it's ok to drive like that. Dot doctor then sent him to get a release letter. If they let you pass, does not mean they let everyone pass.
Don't ####ing tell me right in my face that I am lyingToomanybikes Thanks this. -
I didn't say you were lying, I said you are wrong. There is a difference. You are wrong.
I am not relating what happened to a guy I know, or someone I saw, this is personal experience. I have had three cards issued with a hernia, one that a DOT Dr found.Cyoteugly Thanks this. -
Thanks for the replies, very helpful.

I don't have a doubt you are being truthful. The thing is it is the medical professional that is signing you fit to drive. There is NOTHING in the FMCSA medical rules that compels a ME to give you a card after a physical. I know of several ME's that refuse to certify you fit to drive if you can't see all the numbers in those color charts. This is why you see different answers on this topic.

The thing is THIS: You CAN have a Hernia (and they WILL check)...but if you do, the examiner is required to divulge it in the "Remarks" section of the DOT Physical Long Form.
If a company asks for a copy of your Long Form, and sees it on there it is up to THEIR discretion whether they want to hire you or not.Cyoteugly Thanks this. -
the Mega's use their own DOT Dr and they can and do set their own qualifications. this is in conjunction to the DOT requirements.
if you have a condition on this list, you will need a waiver to release them from any liability. this is all the companies rules,or should I say their insurance companies rules, not the DOT.Cyoteugly Thanks this. -
Their has to be some reason the hernia is part of the medical exam. Every exam I have been checked for a hernia and almost every doctor I have gone to has commented on how stupid it is to have a hernia a determining factor.
